Ultimate Spider-Man
This book has always delivered a fun story with fine art. While some stories weren't as great as others, none of them were ever horrible or even bad. At their worst, they were still enjoyable.
Many of Peter Parker's struggles got updated to make him more relevant and appealing to the supposedly newer and younger comic readers of today., as well as a lot of the so-called "continuity" baggage. I don't know how well it worked (attracting new readers) but it did serve in getting some ex marvel fans interesting in Spider-man again (myself included). Bendis different story telling techniques (along with the great Ed Bagely's art) helped make it that much better. The character reactions after a dialogue bubble, the real angstyness of Peter, of May Parker's character being explored beyond being a doting old aunt were things that made it better. Bendis took his MTV dialogue and introduced it to the only place it could work: a high school.
One of the very best Ultimate Spider-man stories I read was "The Hobgoblin" story where Harry becomes the new Goblin. Peter's fear of Harry is visible all throughout the story as well as his fear for Mary Jane and his aunt. The agony, pain, uncertainty and anger on Peter's face as he fight's Harry all make the story so much better. I hadn't been pulled into a story like that for a long time.
So I'll continue picking up this title until Bendis quits.

Sadly, because of the state of the U line, I could drop this title and not be very sad about it.jedispyder wrote:Yeah, I have to say USM makes Ultimatum just a bit less shitty. Pissed they killed off Daredevil, fuckers! To think at one point I was near dropping the title...
