Spidey, Wolvie, X-men, Captain America, The Hulk, Fantastic Four... you get the idea.

Ultimate Spider-Man

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

This book has always delivered a fun story with fine art. While some stories weren't as great as others, none of them were ever horrible or even bad. At their worst, they were still enjoyable.

Many of Peter Parker's struggles got updated to make him more relevant and appealing to the supposedly newer and younger comic readers of today., as well as a lot of the so-called "continuity" baggage. I don't know how well it worked (attracting new readers) but it did serve in getting some ex marvel fans interesting in Spider-man again (myself included). Bendis different story telling techniques (along with the great Ed Bagely's art) helped make it that much better. The character reactions after a dialogue bubble, the real angstyness of Peter, of May Parker's character being explored beyond being a doting old aunt were things that made it better. Bendis took his MTV dialogue and introduced it to the only place it could work: a high school.

One of the very best Ultimate Spider-man stories I read was "The Hobgoblin" story where Harry becomes the new Goblin. Peter's fear of Harry is visible all throughout the story as well as his fear for Mary Jane and his aunt. The agony, pain, uncertainty and anger on Peter's face as he fight's Harry all make the story so much better. I hadn't been pulled into a story like that for a long time.

So I'll continue picking up this title until Bendis quits.

Hmmm, I think something's going to happen to this book with the Ultimatum going on.
Might be relaunched or something like that.

The USM title is the only decent title of Ultimatum. then again, USM is the only decent title of the Ultimate like. I won`t be too sad if it gets canned though.

the Ultimate line has lost a ton of appeal.

Yeah, I have to say USM makes Ultimatum just a bit less shitty. Pissed they killed off Daredevil, fuckers! To think at one point I was near dropping the title...

Sadly, because of the state of the U line, I could drop this title and not be very sad about it.

Ultimate Spidey survives. They'll relaunch it, as Arn said.

They'll change the artist though.
Stuart Immonen is going to New Avengers, and will be the first decent regular artist on the title, about time since the book will be in its 50s issues.
David Lafuente will be the new USM artist. He had samples at NYCC and it looked pretty decent.

Nooo. :( I was thinking about picking the book up after the relaunch, but they do away with Immonen?

That won't make it a good book, though, if Bendis keeps his writing on that book the way it's been.
