My top 3:
The rest in no particular order:
The LOTR films I have listed above is the Fellowship of the Ring, not The Two Towers or the Return of the King. The latter two, while great in their own right weren't as good as the first film.
Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl isn't that its just better than Dead Man's Chest & World's End; its that the latter two films were total shit. They were excessively long, and boring and didn't posses one-tenth of the magic & humor of the first Pirates film.
I feel Gladiator is one of Crowe's best films to date. The peformance he gave one of the best performances of his career.
Black Hawk Down is hands down probably my favorite war film to date. I know technically it doesn't count as a "war" film but its got soldiers fighting other soldiers & merc's so its a war film. It didn't shy away from the politics, violence, military incompetence & gave an unflinching look at the brutality of urban modern warfare.
Whale Rider is a heart-warming story that is just that great, and there is the underlying theme of equality of among the genders.
BrokeBack Mountain: Great, great, great love story.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon & Dark Knight are just my favorite films all around.
Anyone else?
