Wonder Woman: Worth Getting?

I'm getting ready to place my monthly order from Amazon, and I've been going back and forth over getting some books, namely Wonder Woman.

Is the re-launch of her series, kicked off by Alan Heinberg, worth picking up? I never really got into her much but I know Heinberg is considered somewhat of a decent writer (when he actually turn's scripts in) and I know Simone writes some great stories so what's the verdict?

Also, I'm considering picking up vol 1 of Manhunter, before the f'ing thing goes out of print

1. GET MANHUNTER. It's great, and one of the better dark, underground, gritty DC titles in the regular DCU. Get it.

2. Wonder Woman.. is convulted as fuck until Simone picked it up... Heinberg, while a good write, is like you said, good when he turns things in. The first four or five issues were clifhangers for almost a year until the annual came out to finish his storyline. We were forced to go into the next storyline without the knowledge of how the initial relaunch actually ended.

The next few were hit and miss, and Simone didn't so much as struggle to get her start on the book, but instead worked hard to almost reset the book and get it back on track. She's hit her groove at this point, and I'm enjoying the Rise of the Olympian storyline, but it's not yet up to the 'Big Three' level as it could be. If you want to get any WW trades, I would suggest the one tied in with the Amazon's Attack event, and then Simone's first. But if you're wanting the whole series, then you can go for that as well, but don't expect greatness right away.

My understanding of current Wonder Woman is:
The villains are boring, making the series, well, boring.
I mean geeze, there are villains other then Circe fer cryin' out loud.

Take all that with a grain of salt 'cuz I haven't actually read the series lately. heh.

Yes. Yes it was, and this time it's for good. It went on hiatus twice I believe, the second one much longer than the first, and finally it was cancelled. Still doesn't mean it wasn't an incredible book.

That was the somewhat persistant problem with WW as well. Circe was OVERLY used for the first year or so, and then played a big role in Amazons Attack. She hasn't been seen for awhile, but Cheetah and Dr. Pyscho are involved quite a bit, and they're trying to create new villains to use when they can.

I've just been really bad about getting this despite reviews being almost unanimously through the roof for it. Well, time so see what the hubub is aboot. And if I dislike it, I plan to beat you to a pulp with it when we do a Con;)

I feel like Bendis did this a lot with DareDevil and the Kingpin. Everytime Fisk returned Bendis made a big deal out of it, only to get rid of him by the storyline's end. I get that Kingpin is DD's main villain, but Bendis utilized him so much, I was no longer excited to see him when he returned.

Most likely a very good decision. I've liked the new direction of WW, but it really took about half the series to get underway. Manhunter is great, and I think there's going to be only about 4-5 trades total, with about 38 issues. I know volume 4 is either out or about out, so you'll be close to the halfway point there. It really is a great book, but just keep in mind it'll span a good number of years since it went on and off hiatus for a number of months each time.

Now, if you want a good Simone book to pick up, I, and meek?, will heavily heavily heavily suggest The All New Atom. It's nothing but fun, science sillyness with tons of humor layered in. The downside to the first trade is that Bryne was along for part of the first storlyine, but by the second he left the book. Simone's run on that was her having Superhero fun the whole way. Sadly she left, and the following storyline was the books last. It really lost it's shine once she departed the book. Still, heavily heavily worth the investment if you value the opinion (especially meek?'s)
