Little Known DC Facts

Post by JediMindTrick »

Sorry Goshin, I'm ripping you off.

Not sure how little known it is, but kryptonite was invited for the 40s Superman Radio Show because the actor playing Superman had (I believe) strep throat, and they needed some reason for him to be sick, and voila! Krrrrryptonite! (a la Kevin Spacey)
Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

During the Armageddon 2001 (or whatever the fuck it was called), the main villain Monarch was originally supposed to be Captain Atom but it was leaked to fans or fans already figured it out, so at the last second DC did the switcheroo and made Monarch become Hawk. Monarch later became Extrant, and then after Infinite Crisis when we got Captain Atom back from the Wildstorm-verse he went into a containment suit that resembled the original Monarch suit, and he eventually dubbed himself Monarch (I think, I really forgot most of Countdown since it was shite)...

I can see why that's a little known fact. It's too confusing for anyone to actually figure out.

That's the bread and butter of DC, baffling us with bullshit. ^_^

Half the DC Universe is too confusing to figure out.
Stop trying.

I thought something was missing.

That makes a lot of sense.

Unlike the DCU.

The DCU makes sense. It just seems like it's not simple enough for some people to understand. Sorry they go for substance rather than ease.

I might just not read enough DCU stuff, but I have read it for a few years, and yet I abrely get my head around some of the characters and back sotry they have. I am also a fairly intelligent guy.

It's just be nice if they occasionally had recap pages.

Like for this current Black Adam JSA storyline, maybe just an opening of whats been going and who is who.

It's hard to want to get into the DCU when it seems like you need to have read everything to get the full understanding.

I don't know, I transitioned very easily into it about 5 years ago having never even been interested, and manged to know what all was going on without having read a single past event that reshaped everything. To me, the legacy aspect of DC actually makes it easy to understand because it creates a sort of 'real time' or transition for various periods of the DCU.

Recap pages always just annoy me anymore in anything I read. If I'm really lost it would help, but at that point I simply ask or go online and find a short recap. But anymore recap pages just feel like shoehorned portions of a story that take away from the possibilties of the current issue. For instance, the new writer on Green Arrow & Black Canary made his debut issue a FULL GA/BC relationship/origin/story recap, with about 7 pages of 'new story' and i was furious. It was good for new readers, but for me I was very upset I'd spent my money on a recap of a storyline I was invested in since Green Arrow was relaunched all those years ago. So those to me are an annoyance, but that's just me.

As for JSA, knowing who anyone is is a task in itself. I dropped it for that reason because there are too many characters. But the what's going on is important yes. I just like how DC has made their comics all existing together in certain books. Like Black Adam's story continuing from 52 to his mini series and pulling in Mary Marvel from Countdown and FC, and now bringing them together in JSA. I like that aspect.
