Green Lanter 38 [mini-spoilers]
Pretty good issue, lot of nice stuff done. Just some tidbits:
* Hal starts out confused with his Green Lantern self claiming he "needs to work through the" then the Red Lantern self "rage, kill, destroy, Sinestro". Hal doesn't know what is going on with his mind, but when he spews the Red Rage, he spews it as constructs (unlike all the other Red Lanterns).
* We find out that the Blue Lantern power only works if there is a Green Lantern nearby for the Blue Lantern to grasp their hope from the willpower. So the Blue Lanterns are currently powerless with Hal a Red Lantern mostly...
* Hal finally pulls the switch on Sinestro's construct electric chair
* Saint Walker rushes through the Red Lanterns and pushes a Blue Lantern ring on Hal's finger and saying "Welcome to the Blue Lantern Corps, Hal"
* Hal begins to get enveloped in bright blue light, with Ring Status saying stuff like "cleaning infection" and "replacing blood", weird stuff like that
* Suddenly the Red Lantern ring just shatters off Hal's fingers, with him now a Blue and Green Lantern
* Hal uses his Blue Lantern power-up to defeat Atrocitus and drain the Yellow Lantern energies
* Sinestro, still looking like shite, directs his Corp to go to the anti-matter universe
* Hal is now a melding of a Blue Lantern and a Green Lantern, with his costume swirls of blue and green - pretty badass, IMO
* Hal asks Saint Walker what he did to him, but Saint Walker responds with "I don't know"
* All the while there is a substory where Carol is missing Hal, calling his place but reaching Cowgirl instead...she eventually decides to take a flight on Hal's newly refurbished plane. While in the air...the Zamoran's get her and transfer her into a Violet Lantern! "You have great loss in your heart"
* We also saw those weird alien guys from awhile back, with them getting the Orange Lanterns "ready" by claiming "this planet has mighty power" or something like that. There is the Orange Lantern seal on the side of a cave, so it seems the Avarice has taken hold of the planet and doesn't want to let go (featured lots of weeds and such). We also see Scar (the Oan who is working for the Black Lanterns) talking to Agent Orange somehow (or something like that, think she was saying something like "they took your power away, I'll give it back to your" but then again its been over 5 hours since I read the issue so I forgot exactly what was going on)
* Sinestro, aftre having recharged on Qward, now plans to go to Korugar (sp) to rescue/save/whatever his daughter
The Origins & Omens backstory featured John Stewart post-Orange Lantern acting all lonely and going in space to spy on a Violet Lantern. Don't remember much else...

These questions may sound silly but
What's with all the different colored Lanterns?
Sinistro is alive?
Where is Kyle and why is Hal the Green Lantern now?
I remember long ago in GL 100, Kyle traveled to the past, I think, and then Hal followed him to the present and I stopped reading at 103 so I don't know what happened exactly. Did Hal stay in present time or something?

Wow, this is gonna take awhile...
So you know how Hal became Parallax and eventually Spectre? We found out that Parallax was actually an entity, he was the yellow impurity in the GL rings. We also found out that Parallax intentionally corrupted Hal, making him do things he shouldn't do. In GL: Rebirth he was able to separate from the Parallax and Spectre and go back into his old body, now sans the white sides in his hair (which was Parallax creeping into him early). We found out Sinestro really wasn't killed by Hal, and that he was hiding in the battery the whole time while Parallax took his place. Now Hal becomes a GL again, as does Guy Gardner (no more Warrior bullshit, he's a fucking pure-GL now).
Soon we find out that Sinestro, who always had a Yellow Ring, is actually creating a Corps of his own, the Yellow Lanterns or Sinestro Corps. He's recruiting people who instill great fear...and tries to recruit Batman. He fails, as Batman refuses to use the ring. Then the Zamorans (Star Sapphire) have a Corps of their own, the Violet Lanterns. Like the GLs are Willpower and the Sinestro are Fear, the Violet are Love. Then we have the Sinestro Corps War, where the prophesy is revealed of the War of Light, where all the Lanterns will come together and fight. Its basically the Rainbow Brigade (Red=Rage, Orange=Avarice/Greed, Yellow=Fear, Green=Willpower, Blue=Hope, Indigo=Compassion or something like that, Violet=Love). There is also another Corps out there, the Black Lanterns, which involve resurrecting the dead somehow (we haven't been introduced to them yet, same with the Indigo Lanterns).
Kyle and Guy are now basically training sergeants on Oa, helping to get the rookies in shape. They're considered the Honor Lantern echelon.

Kyle really didn't take it too bad, he was excited to not have to bear the weight the GLs on his shoulder. He actually got fucked up a bit, being infected by Parallax (it was awesome!) and being refused his Ion powers because of the Parallax infection. Ion is what Parallax is to the YL, its basically the uber-entity of the Corps, the "best of the best". So Kyle was disappointed in not being able to be Ion, but he passed on the torch and taught his successor.
Guy is back with his bowl cut and all, same as he always was. He opened up a bar on Oa (hah!) and kinda sorta got back together with Ice (who isn't dead anymore, yay).

It was Batman who knocked Guy out with one punch, and that was friggin hilarious!
And Parallax did kill all but 1 of the Guardians, but he didn't destroy Oa (just fucked it up). Ganthet survived to create the ring for Kyle, and eventually when Kyle decided Ion was too much he created new Guardians. Then after the Sinestro Corps War, Ganthet and Saiyd (sp) exiled themselves from the other Guardians and formed the Blue Lantern Corps, which as stated in my first post run off the Willpower of the GLs.

This issue was good, and wrapped the Red Lantern story up pretty quickly. Glad to see that the Violet Lanterns are still active since we haven't really seen them in the main GL book since before the Sinestro Corps War. Also glad that they tapped Carol again.
Hal being both a blue and Green Lantern is pretty cool, but I disagree on the costume mesh. It could use some re-working to me.
Excited about the Agent Orange storyline, but when will we see the Indigo Lanterns? Anyone know? Or have they appeared in the GL Corps book already?

See, it didn't bother me that we didn't see the Violet Lanterns in main GL book because they've been featured so much int he GLC book. Its been awesome seeing them there, especially with them now putting the seed of doubt into Kyle about love (great seeing him rebel against the Guardians on that front).
Indigo Lanterns are still a mystery to me, nothing in the GLC yet on them. I'm thinking they may pop up in Agent Orange as their counterpart (like Blue Lanterns were the counterpart to the Red Lanterns)...

I don't read GLC, so I'm not sure what's been going on there with the Violet's and Kyle. Any chance you can do a quick recap for me? It'd be much appreciated!
And that's a good call on the Indigo/Orange pairing. We got the Violet Corps just before the Sinestro Corps, and Love and Fear do balance each other out (though hate/rage works good there too), and then we got the Blue and Red Corps together, with Rage and Hope balancing somewhat (Tho I think Hope and Fear work better as opposites). Indigo and Orange will be decent balances, not just in opposite ends of the spectrum but in their emotions as well, with Compassion and Greed being rather opposed to each other. Good call.

I don't know how much you know about the GLC, but its been pretty good. A lot of it has focused on the Yellow Lanterns, with Mongul becoming the self-proclaimed leader. He battled the GLC on a planet full of the weird dream-plant (Mercy Plant or something like that). The GLC eventually was able to dispose of him, slicing off his arm and leaving him to the mercy of Mercy Plant. After that we got an arc involving Kryb, the baby stealing Yellow Lantern. This is where the Third Law came from, that Lanterns are not allowed to have love lives (can't remember if it was only love lives within the Corps, or whether it was love lives in general). In this arc we saw the Violet Lanterns make a big appearance, with the GLC having a meeting with them. It was revealed that the Violet Lanterns are "rehabilitating" the female Yellow Lanterns, instilling them with love and changing them to Violet Lanterns. Fatality came victim to this, with her now a member of the Violet Lanterns. We also found out that Mongul survived Mercy, and left with his arm in tow, phantomly attached to his body (its basically levitating in the correct spot). He got pissed for some reason at the Daxamites and decided to enslave them, creating Daxam as the new Yellow Lantern planet. That is why in the newest issue of GL it is revealed that there is a fracture in the Yellow Lanterns, with some followers still believing in Sinestro and others now following Mongul.
We've also been introduced to a GL who can speak to the dead, and he was sent on a mission by Scar to gather the leftover pieces of the Anti-Monitor. No clue how he's going to interact with the Black Lanterns, but I'm sure he's gonna be part of it. Just like how Kyle was being haunted by the dead GLs, with him doodling the dead without even thinking of it. In the newest issue he creates a mural to commemorate the dead, with many GLs begging to help him create it.
And the Blue Lanterns actually perfectly counteract the Yellow Lanterns by sucking up their energy, but they also negate might of the Red Lanterns.

Thanks for the recap on GLC! I read the Recharge mini but didn't go for the series since I was slightly budgeted, and was more interested in Hal than Kyle and Guy. I caught that there was a division in the Yellow Corps, and that's what kind of threw me a bit. I remember they had a Mongul storyline, but never heard what happened there. Glad they brought in the Black Mercy plants though. Those things are pretty intense.
So that's the third law? No Love Lives.. that makes sense with the particular Yellow Lantern in context, and the whole deal with the Violet Lanterns (who I think at one point were destined to mate with a Green Lantern and turn the planet to a perfect crystal to protect everyone on it).
That takes us only up to 3 of the 10 New Laws right? Do you think we'll get all of them before or after Blackest Night?

Nah, I usually go for the uber-best first and then save a couple other good ones for later. In the end I go "fuck it" and end up reading the best first and crappy last. Case in point for this week, I think all I have left to read is the new Runaways. Shite, that's just begging to be a disappointment =o/

The only good that would be is if you were reading it whilst taking a crap and ran out of toilet paper.
