FCBD

Post by wolf_2099 »

What did everyone pick up?
Either FCBD comics or sales at their local store?

I am just about to go to mine!
Hopefully there is stuff left.

Had a good time.
Shop was opening at 10am so I got there around 08h30. That would have put me about 30th in line but luckily a friend of mine got there earlier so I joined him and we were 6th in line.
By the time the shop opened, the line was going round the block, it was HUGE.
Once inside, you had the right to pick 3 free comics in English and 2 in French so I got the Dark Horse one (Fight Club 2!!!!!!!!!!) and both Marvel (Secret Wars 0 and All New, All Different Avengers) and in French, The Infinite Loop and Scarce (a French fanzine about comics). I also picked up my weekly comics and grabbed a Vertigo anthology from the shelves that I hadn't pre-ordered.
They had a raffle going, with the top prize being a life-sized Rocket Raccoon statue but I didn't buy a ticket. And everyone spending more that $20 could draw a random number to win a prize. I got a lousy Star Wars posters that I didn't keep.
In the end, I had a good time and am damn glad that I got there really early cause the people who arrived at 11am waited 5 hours in line before being able to enter the store.

The shop owner posted the "stats" today : 1100 customers throughout the day. He had ordered 9,000 comics and he almost sold out.

Way to go!

I didn't go. Every year, our regional academic competition falls on the first Friday of May. I coach the English team, so needless to say, I've missed the last four FCBD's in a row. I normally get to grab my free books a few weeks early after they come in and have them put in my folder so I don't miss them. This year though, I didn't bother to look out for them early. Nothing was really standing out as being worth grabbing. The only thing I only ever feel I miss out on are the deals my LCS runs that day, usually involving back issues or TPBs.

Didn't get anything. It was on a weekend as usual and I can't be bothered to go into the city for a few commies

I didn't realise it was FCBD.

My new store just orders in what his customers want. I didn't go there on Saturday, but I'm guessing they didn't get any of the FCBD books.

I did however wonder into my old shop on Saturday and pick up a few items.

I got:

Boom Studios 10 Year Celebration
Marvel's Everything Engs
Kieron Gillen's Mecury Heat
IDW's Transformers

My old shop also picks out some old issues that aren't selling for free.

It susrprises me how many non comic book people know about FCBD and how they only ascend on the store on that day. The power of 'free' is astonishing.

I have to work on Saturdays so I never get to participate. Not that I'd get to even if I'm off, lol. My retailer lets his "regulars" know that it's going to be hectic and he's glad we don't try to "brave the crowd" and come in. He always has a lot of new people in checking stuff out and crowding the store, which is already extremely crowded with limited walkways. I went on Thursday to trade in some action figures so he'd have some new things for the kids showing up and he had me pick out the comics I wanted from his long box of new comics, then set them aside for me to pick up later. I just went with the main 2 Marvel, 1 DC, and 1 TMNT.

I too wondered why he was avoiding the city due to commies.
