You buy a lot of art so I was wondering something: What is an appropriate amount of time to wait after emailing an artist about buying art before you email them again asking a second time?

Terry Dodson has art for sale on his website but no direct way (that I could find) to buy it so I emailed him just around a week ago. I haven't heard back yet, and while I'm aware he could be busy between shows/work, I also don't want those pages to be bought out from under me. At the same time, there are pages of another series of like to get from another artist which are cheaper and easily available to purchase, but I'd prefer the Dodson ones. So I'm holding off on those until I hear from Dodson, but I'm afraid I'll miss out on those as well.

Any suggestions? How long would you suggest I wait before emailing him again? Or should I just wait it out?

Give it 2-4 weeks. Since he is selling his own art, it should be fairly quick. It's also his wife that handles his sales, not him, I think.

I've heard of artists taking upwards of a year to respond, they are horribly unreliable.

That said, I emailed him once and he got back in about 3-4 weeks.

I have bought and paid for sketches that I am waiting for that have been 6 months a a year I am now waiting on, let alone replies. A lot of artists never even respond to the e-mails on their sites.

If you know for sure you want to buy it, e-mail him again and tell him you have the cash and would like to purchase it, and ask for payment detials, etc. It may get a quicker reply.

In cases like this, it's always a risk the others may be gone, you just kind of need to decide whether to wait it out.

I've missed stuff because I was waiting to hear on someone, it sucks, but it happens.

That said, links for what you want to buy! I'd like to see it.

Funny enough, I just heard back from him an hour ago! Which is good as I was kind of thinking I'd just go ahead and get the Angel & Faith pages. It was pretty short and he said he'd check on the pages this weekend to be sure they hadn't been purchased already, claimed, or anything else.

I have a few friends who've bought sketches and waited a number of months to hear from the artist about it, so I knew it was a possibility. But I'm glad I heard back so soon. Now to make sure I hear back soon again.

They're both pages from Uncanny X-Men 535, the first arc of his and Gillen's Breaking Point arc. Pages 4 & 19.

I wanted a different page than page 4 (I think it was 1 or 2), that was up a few months ago, as it had Kitty and Peter sitting down for a picnic, but I hesitated and did the whole "eh do I want to buy art or not" thing and now it's long gone. So I'd like the other one with them and Namor. Page 19 has almost all of my favorite X-Men from Fraction/Gillen's run: Magneto, Cyclops, Emma, Colossus, Wolverine, Kitty. It's only missing Namor, and he's on the other page. It's more expensive, but I'm getting more characters.

Plus everything is inked by Rachel, so it'll look nice as it's finished.

Ha! I was looking at buying some of those pages a while back.

There nice, Dodson's art is nice too.

From my understanding it holds it value pretty well, too.

Very nice pages, and Dodson is a great way to start. Art takes up way less room, too, and displays better!

I hope he has it in stock!

Well it looks like the full group page is already sold, yet the other is still available. I really wanted them as a set and if I could only get one, I was hoping for the one that is sold.

I'm also finally getting around to seriously looking at buying a new car. So I'm trying to convince myself why I really need the art when I could put that money back for a car payment instead.

So I guess there's that.

Well, if you want to keep looking for Dodsons art I can point you to some secondary sellers if you want.

Who needs to pay car payments¿

Comicartfans.com is a good place to look.

Who did the Iron Fist? It looks great! I'll also take that Kitty Pryde off your hands if you don't have a place for it :D

Mikh Rooth did the Iron FIst for me.

And that Kitty Pryde is a set of 10, that will be a set of 16 X-Men for my wall!

Maleev isn't a dick. He just has a supremely high opinion of himself.

Also, my iPad auto corrected "Maleev" to "malevolent. So maybe he is a dick...

That's fine, I'll accept all 16 X-Men if need be.
