Avengers Assemble... Awesome!!!

Post by Stocky Boy »

Thank Satan for the early UK release date ahead of the US May 4th! :)

It's very enjoyable guys. Awesome action film and every character gets their moment to shine.

I think Whedon's done an amazing job.

For me, HUlk stole most of the best scenes and obviously Robert Downey Jnr was going to stand out a mile.

I think my only gripe was the occasionally lame bit of interaction and convenient plot moments, but I could write those off as well served moments that kept the film rolling at a good pace.

The trailers, I think were the only problem. Those trailers were awesome and although they don't give too much away, scenes like the hellicarrier rising and Hulk rescuing a falling Iron Man would be much more impressive and emotionally resonant if you hadn't seen them already.

N.B. Stay to the end of the 'main' credits for some traditionally Marvel snippets of what the next Marvel film(s) may build up to.

I loved it too!!
The pace is great, the action almost non stop. The dialogues are alright. The only thing that stands out as not so good is Cap's costume. It really looks lame.
Marvel really did something awesome with their franchises there.
Might want to see it next week on my day off.

Stocky, apart from the Stan Lee cameo, did you notice any easter eggs? I could not spot any.

In the movie art that came out ahead of the film, I thought Cap's outfit looked a bit lame. I thought the same for Black Widow and Hawkeye too to a lesser extent. The black in their costumes mitigate the superhero sillyness a bit. The armless look of Hawkeye doesn't make sense to me though. His costume is arguably the closest in rendition to an existing comic costume i.e. his original Ultimate one, but it doesn't make 'real world' sense to have no arms and no obvious bullet proofing.
I thought Cap's outfit was good enough to not ruin the experience. A good enough attempt at bringing it to the big screen. To be far to those involved with the costume design, it's a costume that's going to look silly no matter what. It had a slightly armoured look and the boots and gloves made sense to me instead of the Puss and Boots look. So, as far as I was concerned, it's better than his comic one and it was good enough for me to enjoy his moments in the film.

Contrastingly, Thor and Iron Man have a natural advantage when it comes to bringing their costumes to the big screen. Since both are very powerful characters it's easy to let your imagination tell you that a demi-god from another realm would wear something totally odd looking and that a guy in advanced armour would look futuristic. The lower power guys don't have the same, if you will, advantage of belief suspension.

The friends I saw this with are up for watching this again on Wednesday. :D
We say it in 3D yesterday and the first five minutes were shit because the projectionist must have fucked up the projection. I'd be tempted to watch it in 2D on Wednesday.

I didn't spot any easter eggs really. Reading an interview with Whedon, I don't think he intended to put any in. I assume the guy who gives Banner a pair of pants was a former creator though.
Obviously the post credit scene is a treat for the comic fans. Otherwise, nothing. Whedon wasn't aginst things that would come across naturally though, rather than a wink to the audience. So, I think the scene where Stark mentions Life Model Decoys could be considered 'natural dialogue' for the character rather than somply a wink to the audience.

Did you see Black Widow actually use her venom bite/sting thing??

Do you know why every now and again Europe or just the UK get the earlier release date? I don't get it. International, same day release dates I get. But, why a US film gets an earlier release date abroad I don't get. I sort of do get the possibility that May 4th is a big day for cinema sales though.

I don't know why we got to see it first but it was nice to see that we saw it before guys like Tom Breevort did!

The old guy giving the pants is an actor, not a creator and I think the Widow used her sting once. Also, did you immediately get who the post credit guy was? I mistook him for somebody else.

I first thought it was the Super Skrull. Silly me.
Also, did you not find it strange how suddenly the Hulk is all collaborating with them?

I recognised the person immediatley.

I'm not bothered by the Hulk's easy collaboration. I'm all for a Hulk who's angry, but cooperative.

This is incredibly difficult to avoid spoilers with you guys talking about it so much, lol. Makes me tempted to watch a pirated version of it (supposedly in HD!) but I'll wait until Thursday night. My friend did watch a pirated version and was extremely satisfied with it...

I won't be seeing it until at least the 3rd week of May. All advance tickets have been sold out. So the crowd who didnt see it opening weekend will see it the following weekend - which I won't be a part of. I like to avoid the opening weekend rush. Sitting in a packed theatre with a bunch of yowling idiots is not my idea of a good time. I'm comfortable waiting for the 3rd week when the hoopla dies down.

Wally: I'm not a fan of week one release either. But, this is the type of film I'm willing to make an exception for, plus there's a nice small-ish cinema my friends introduced me to, which we went to for the viewing. It's slightly out of the way and cheaper than the big West End cinemas.

Arn: I could take or leave that line.

Ed: When you seeing it then?

I got my tickets for Saturday night.
We have theatres where you can reserve seats in the theatre, that is the main reason I am going.

It's an extra 4 or 5 bucks, but for a movie I know will sell out, and I really want to see, it is fantastic.

Would you ever be tempted to buy all the surrounding seats around you just to gurantee no idiot is sitting too close to you?

I have considered buying 1 buffer seat, but when the theatre is that pack, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Just got back from seeing it. So. Fucking. Amazing!

So many surprises, so many awesome scenes. I'm a "Joss Whedon is my god now" type of person so I worship all the subtle things that were so Joss.

Now I'm intrigued as to The Other, who I'm guessing was the person that Loki and Thanos were talking to. He was surprisingly played by Alexis Denisof (aka Wesley on Buffy/Angel and husband to Alyson Hannigan). I read on a blog that the possible identity of The Other is likely Annihilus, which pretty much fucking blows my mind. Did anyone else catch that? I wish those scenes had been lighter, being so dark it made it all difficult. I was lucky enough to know it was Thanos that The Other was talking to but some people thought it was Red Skull (I even had a guy lean over from above to ask me who it was, lol).

And anyone else burst out laughing at the scene after the credits? Not the one during the credits, but the 2nd scene. It was so out of place but so nonchalant, half of my theatre just burst out laughing while watching it.

The whole scene is the group of them, automatically after defeating Loki, in the shawarma restaurant that Tony was talking about. They're sitting there, eating shawarmas, not talking at all. Just eating. It's so out of place but so fucking hilarious. I love emotion with words or big motions, just the subtle movements make it.

I avoided this thread for 5 days. I just got home from an IMAX 3D showing.

I loved it. Very very fun. I'll add a more detailed review later, as I'm going to see it again this weekend I'm sure. I can't say I had much, if anything, to complain about. It lived up to the hope I had for it.

Favorite fan scene: Thor striking Hulk in the face with his hammer. I had to resist yelling "Hell yes!!!" when it happened. I got my one wish for the film.

It was pretty good. Better than Thor, not as good as Iron Man. But not by far the best superhero movie I'v ever seen. Nonetheless, it was non-stop fun.

Evidently the diner scene at the end of the movie was only shown in the US. Sounds like it may be the scene they filmed a month ago just for the hell of it that made people worried they were do reshoots instead of doing a new scene.

I'm definitely a sheep and I did go out and get some shawarma, wasn't as good as a gyro but I think the place skimped me on the fillings as half my pita was empty. I'll have to go to a more legit Mediterranean place to get one, I know one that sells both gyros and shawarmas...
