Picked up Saga 1 yesterday since our reorder came in. Today in Muncie I found six copies of Manhattan Projects 1 so I bought four of them. 1 for me and 3 for my shop back home since we've been out. All first printings too.

I also got the classics Avengers Toon Tumbler as well. So woohoo!

You will not be dissapointed.

In other news:
Dark Victory 0-13. Issue #5 had some real wear on it so I'll eventually need to replace that

Uncanny X-Men 64 (first Sunfire), 96, 102, 106. My highest missing issue is now 103. The 64 isnt a great copy but it'll do for now. And I got the 106 at under half of what he had when I found a defect the dealer had created when he bagged it. Back cover corner folded which sucks but it wasn't an end all for me at that point. It'll hold over for now.

Tragic, how complete is your UXM collection? I'm curious because I see you picking up a lot of really early back issues

I'm now missing 86 total issues from the series, including the nearly 30 reprint issues. Add in Giant Size X-Men 1 and the total is 87. It's definitely an attainable goal now. I've started limiting myself to buying only old Uncanny back issues at shows rather than anything else unless it's a complete run I've wanted to read or own, like Secret Wars or those first 12 issues of Alpha Flight. It's my main reason to go to smaller shows and puts some real fun back into collecting that book.

Found a guy on eBay with cheap variants starting at $3:
Incredible Hulk #600 1:25 Tim Sale Variant
Incredible Hulk #635 Variant Marvel Blank White
Incredible Hulk #1 Variant Marvel Blank White
New Avengers #1 Blank Variant
New Mutants #35 1:15 Jason Pearson Variant
New Mutants #3 1:10 Yanick Paquette Variant
Secret Avengers #1 1:15 Yardin Heroic Age variant
Secret Warriors #3 1:10 Gerald Parel Wolverine Art Appreciation Variant
Siege #3 1:25 Dell'Otto Variant

Bidding on a lot of others one from him going off in the next day. I'm a sucker for cheap variants...

Have fun!

I've put mine on the back burner. I realized for the amount I spent on sketches this weekend I could have finished my UXM run, but I like the sketches a lot more.

I think if I had the access you did, it'd be different though.

I spent a while haggling over Fine copies of UXM at ECCC. They were priced high, but they are priced high everywhere, but they guys won't budge. I tried to get $200 for $150 (which was a very fair price) and he wouldn't go down.

THERE IS NO MARKET FOR MID TO LOW GRADE X-MEN DAMNIT. (ed's the only other person I've seen buying them that isn't looking for 9.8)

When I still went to conventions I would get low to mid-grade Uncanny issues just so I could have at least a "place holder" issue. It's been awhile since I tried for any back issues, not even sure what I need anymore (then my dad did a lot of comic buying on eBay so we just considered us to have a single collection instead of each of us having one). I'm going to ask him if he has a list of which Uncanny we need and may start hunting for some cheap copies. I think last I looked we only needed something like 60-75 or so copies to have the full series (obviously needing mainly issues in 1-25). My main problem is I don't want to spend $50+ on any issue right now. Maybe later on in life, but for now I'm content with cheap copies...

It really is hard to find books that aren't Very Fine+ to Near Mint at some shows. I'm nearly paying top dollar for some books.

I had to make the choice between a VF+ copy of 102 ONLY or the four issues I got this weekend at VG+ to Fine. I really am in the 'placeholder' mode right now. Just getting the issue is the big thing for me right now. Eventually when I have more money and can trade in lower grade books for some money off higher grade books I might do that, but I'm not looking for a Near Mint to Mint copy of UXM 32 or other random issues. I typically spend about $35-50 a book. I think I only went over that with issue 50, 95, and 100, but not by much on those.

There really is NO market for lower end X-Men books. Almost every is trying to sell high end books that I just can't afford. It's great to see some of them, but I know it means there are less copies of books I could get or want there then. I saw my first copy of #1 last weekend, and it was great, but having books like that means all of the other back issues that dealer carriers are probably going to be high quality books that I just can't afford right now.

This is my dilemma too! Now that I've started moving into the sketch side of things, I find it so hard to choose between a sketch or another back issue. I keep telling myself to prioritize the back issues but that never happens.

C2E2 will be a sketch/signing priority rather than a back issue one. But we'll see if that sticks.

That's the other thing with uxm.
They are always there.

At every co. I can find almost every xmen I need. It makes the urge to buy them far less.

I always just wait till I see them at a great price.

I'd rather buy stuff I know I wot find again.

The last few weeks I've been working on trying to expand, if not complete my UXM collection as well. Im finding that the early UXM books going as far back as #129 sell for a fairly reasonable price if they are in F- VF condition. When I'm buying UXM books I almost always pick up the ones that are in Fine or Very Fine condition. Anything Mint or NM is usually out of my price range so I skip those with no problem. Once I get as many UXM books as I can, I'll post what I've picked up.

Midtown comics just recently got a copy of Uncanny X-Men #1 CGCd at 6.0 and it was priced at nearly $5,000.00. It was cool to finally see a copy UXM in real life and they also have a copy of Action Comics #2, in very poor condition not graded priced at around $2,500.00. Again very cool to see but all the same, I'm not interested.

I go for GD-F, depending on the issue. The sub 15's I need, I generally go fo good, even fine gets pretty damn pricey for these.

The near mint any age comics lately have had their prices sky rocket over the last two years, everything else is going way down.

Uncanny X-Men 44

I am missing only about 4 issues from a straight set of ten books under #100. Not too bad.

Out of curiosity, what grade is the 50 that you picked up? That was a book that I personally wanted to handle myself while buying rather than have someone pick it up or order it online.
