New Comics! Febuary 1, 2012

Post by wolf_2099 »

Does anyone stop and read comics in there car before going home?
The last few times I went to a local store I've always seen men (30 years old) sitting in their car reading comics right after buying them.

Seems weird to me.

I usually get comics before going to my mom's house for Family Dinner, so sometimes I don't know how much time I'll exactly have. If I have time, I will sit in the parking lot (either at the comic store or at my mom's place) and read an issue or two. Back when I used to get my comics earlier in the day, I would sit in the car with the windows slightly down and read, or go to the park and read either at a bench/picnic table or in the car with the windows down.

ACTION COMICS #6
ANIMAL MAN #6
DETECTIVE COMICS #6
SUPERNATURAL #5
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #679
AVENGERS X-SANCTION #3
UNCANNY X-FORCE #21
UNCANNY X-MEN #6
X-FACTOR #231
BOYS #63

Officially dropping JLI, it's just not that great anymore. 'Tec is on the edge as well, especially if they keep up with having only 12 page main stories.

And to be fair, another incentive for me reading in the parking lot of my comic store is it's right next to a tanning facility, so you always have hot girls walking by so there is a lot of eye candy...

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #679
DEFENDERS #3
UNCANNY X-MEN #6

Small week. Defenders is on the fence. This or the 4th issue will really determine if I keep it.

As for reading in the car, I'm used to seeing people do it. I never did because I usually was at work and read a few before leaving the shop. I did read them on the bus though when I was in college if I was going home, but I wasn't just sitting in a car reading.

I used to sit in my car on breaks at the movie theater and read comics if I hadn't read them yet. It was an easy way to pass short breaks and I'd get to read my books before 2 or 3 in the morning when I'd get home.

I don't know whether or not to get the Twelve. I think the disaproving self should win out against the collecting self in this situation.

As to reading the books on the parking lot, well my shop has no parking lot. It's in a small street in the city center. I go there by bike or on foot so no reading on the spot for me. Also, I'm very late in my reading at the moment. Like 5 to 4 issues behind on some titles.

Never read my comics in the parking lot or on the bus or train. Trains and buses are always packed so its not too practical to read them there. I generally prefer to read them in the comfort of my home.

Detective Comics #6
iZombie #22
Fatale #2
Punisher #8
Uncanny X-Men #6

Haunted City #2 finally came out. I was excited to get this series back in...September? October, but now, I'm very meh about the whole thing. I'll flip through it but doubtful I'd pick it up.

I read like this in general, for the most part.

I'll leave it till I have 4-6 issues straight to read. Unfortuantly, this leaves me very behind on what to drop.

I'm very much a read them the same day or the next after buying them. I don't like waiting to read issues and I only do it if I'm missing the previous book, like with this current Alpha Flight mini. I'm missing issue 3 so I've not read the rest of it yet. I enjoy the monthly or even bi-weekly wait for the next issue. I suppose I'd wait for trades if I didn't mind waiting for 5 or 6 issues.

I try to read most of them the same day but I do get behind on some. Usually that forces me to just go and download them to read it all right away instead of shuffling around to find the individual issues. I did that last night with Twenty Seven: Set 2 (or whatever it was called).

I find this is a very good approach to for any Vertigo, Indy or mature readers title. Most of these type of series just don't read well in single installements. You need to read several issues at once to enjoy them.

I just recently read about 9 issues of iZombie back to back and it was much more enjoyable than reading it piecemeal.

Which is why I started doing that!

With all the comic now being published for trade format, they can become hard to follow monthly.

I miss the days of the occasional 1-3 parters.
