I faintly remember Arn maybe saying this guy was an idiot.

Never really knew why, read his articles on bleeding cool, they were okay, never really understood why he got that job, since he isn't a very good writer.

Then I read this today:

The guy is fucking retared. American-Canadian, really? This whole piece is drivel.

Thoughts on the man?

I don't like him much. I read his stuff because sometimes it is interesting. But he sounds kinda egocentric. And some of his articles are just a list of Tweet sent by creators.

Wally did a bit of journo work for him recently, didn't he?

I've never read any of Johnston's articles. But, surely an American-Canadian is someone born in one of the two countries who lives in the other? Or/And along with this has one american parent and one canadian?

I imagine it's a Canadian working in America, it is however, still one of the stupidest things I have ever read.

I like bleeding cool, it's just a shame he seems to write half the articles, and quite lazily, it seems.

The only articles I've ever read by Rich Johnston was the one I reported on for him and the one XIII did translations for. Other than that I have no idea what Johnston writes about.

Reading that makes me wonder if it's not sarcasm and satire? Like he's not playing a big joke on how a big deal wasn't made or something and they should all email him to let him know their positions to confirm things?

The American-Canadian again came off more sarcastic to me at first, like he was mocking the diversity issue presented often.

If he's serious, then yes, he's a total idiot. If he's not, then it's still a rather dumb article with jokes that don't go as far as he'd probably hoped.

Then again, I could be totally wrong. I've spent my day around 100+ seventh graders all day, so I'm reading almost everything as sarcasm.

I browsing the DCMB's and I came across a thread that quickly turned into a flame war (remember flame wars?) between Rich Johnston and a DCMBer named darkbatman1.

It's a good read if you're bored or want a laugh. I don't harbor any ill will towards Johnston as I don't read anything he writes. However, reading the messages on the DCMB, it seems to me that Johnston is being attacked outright. I can understand readers being wary of the validity of Johnston's articles but its still a poor way to behave even if it is on the internet. I think the kicker is that the primary flamer, darkbatman1, doesn't realize he's being so aggressive; he thinks he's behaving in a calm and rational manner.

The fun begins around the end of page 1 of the thread.

To bump a very old thread.

Does anyone even think this should be reported?

To me it just seemed like a bragging piece. "Oh hey, look what I did last night." Kind of thing.

I still think most of his articles are hollow as hell. He gets the scoop on a comics news once in a while, but otherwise, it's mostly dreadful rubbish.

Actually, I enjoyed the story. I remember back in the day when Wizard talked all about possible crossovers, no matter how stupid it might be.

I am starting to believe there isn't just that much comics news.

So places like bleedingcool start to make up stuff to post, just to keep their new content flowing in, so people visit their site.

I've gone through my google reader feed, and realized between the 4 comic sites I have only about 1 story in 10 is a relevant comic story.

Only the Beat, which updates far less than everyone else, only has real updates.

One last update.

Bleeding Cool and Johnston has a column called Speculators Corner, which I really did enjoy reading. It gave a nice look into books that coming out that would be popular, if to read, not to make money off of.

Lately it's been a dead column, until yesterday when he posted this;
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/03/06/ ... ts-and-su/

He just lists comics that have already come out, when speculation should be about comics before they come out. Very poorly done.

At one point, he actually says "Fuck it".

I think I may go try downloading house to astonish now.
