Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo

It was a fun con to help work. I got to hear about the Montreal con this year, they are bringing Stan Lee out, so that will be awesome. Scored Wally some passes for NYCC this year, and generally just had a fun time.

Stuart Immonen also doesn't sketch or sell art at shows, so he gave me the name of his art dealer and I ordered a page through them from NExtwave.

Man, that's a great swag!! And good job on scoring Wally some passes!
Also, love the sketches and the fact that you're really getting into buying original art.
If not for Simon, you'd be my #1 hero.

I also really like how you are framing the sketches. Makes me wonder if I should drop from having a sketchbook to getting single-page sketches.
Maybe when the sketchbook is done...

There is a Canadian chain store that sells frames that fit everything but a comic book. They are a very nice black frame that look great.

The best thing is, they have ridiculous sales, so I get them for 50-70% off.

I can from a 11x17 comic page for $20.

I suggest trying the same, try and find a local art supply store that sells frames to do it.

Custom framing costs a fortune.

They are a little pricier, but you can just pop the top off to switch comics. It's nice since I can switch signed comics every week or two.

I found it to be really nice to be able to put up some signed comics. I got 3 black frames for it.

If I get some time this week, I'll take some pictures of the hang sketches/comics so you can see what it's like, if you want.

Yes, instead of framed photos of your family or son, you've got your living room decorated with framed sketches.

The Darwyn Cooke one is sitting next to my bed. It didn't do a great job of showing how nice artwork can be hung, it's up just like a regular picture.

I like how you knew it was missing. Ha.

Glad to see framed artwork looks that good on walls. I'm going to have to do that, as I screwed up big time with my first sketchbook. It had perforated pages which weren't as strong as I'd hoped, and they're all coming loose, so I'm going to get them framed and start a new one most likely.

Do you do anything special for sketches that are just pencils so that the glass doesn't lay flat on the art and possibly smear the pencil marks? I'd heard that's what you want to do with those kind of sketches, like getting a border to lift the glass just the tiniest bit, but I wanted to see what you did too. Mine are 50/50 inks/watercolors and pencil, and I don't want to ruin any of them.

What about spraying some conservant on the pages? I know my art teacher used to do that, to fix the pencil. Of course, he didn't frame the pages.

I've heard that, too. The only pencil sketch I have is the Boys cover, but I was told I didn't need to for that one.

I always pay a little more for pencil/ink so they will last.

All of them are also hung in rooms or hallways that don'tt get direct sunlight.

Krista gets so annoyed that picture is there, and that there is a picture of my dog on my desk, but none of her.

I keep telling her I get to see her every day, but not Bruce Campbell or the dog.

It doesn't help.
