Free Comic Book Day 2011
So what, if anything, did you guys do or get? Any great deals where you nabbed higher end books for less than half price or got a run on a series you were wanting to try at a great sale price?
I didn't get to stop in any shops Saturday due to other commitments, but I did take the 4 free comics I wanted about a week early from my store so I wouldn't miss them. I got Green Lantern, Spider-Man, Cap/Thor, and the Young Justice/Brave and the Bold books and finally read through them all last night.
I have to say the Spider-Man one was probably my favorite. Hilarious story and great art by Humberto Ramos, who I've missed quite a bit. I've been circling the edge of wanting to get onto Spider-Man, and this really almost pushes me over the edge for it.
GL wasn't anything special, and the Flashpoint teaser was not really that great. Can't say it hyped me up for the book like the Blackest Night issue did, but we'll still see.
Cap and Thor was fun, if not directly aimed at kids. Thor and Loki seemed a bit out of character, and it really tried to make Thor and Cap seem like their movie selves. Loki calling Thor 'bro' at one point made me think I wasn't the primary market for the book but it was still really fun.
Young Justice was good, and it helped having not had a new episode in awhile. Plus, seeing Kid Flash basically save the day was a huge bonus for me. The Brave and the Bold story was great as well.
How about you guys? Anything worth mentioning that you saw, bought, or read?

SUPER DINOSAUR!
I noticed no store nears me really had any sales, which struck me as really odd. I figured it'd be a great time to try and sell old statues, etc.
Every store limited to max 2 books per person, and after I got stuff for the kids I knew, I didn't have anything left for me.
However, all the stores were packed, which was great to see.
(I did notice I got a 20% off coupon to 1 store.)

Oooooh I didn't know there was a Cooke shirt! Very nice!
Yeah, a lot of stores I've seen usually try to limit the amount of books you can get. We used to kind of do a take up to 4 thing but I think he changed it this year to 1 to start with, and then had games and ways to get more. He wanted people to bring in receipts from other local businesses in order to get more, because he really tries to promote everyone else downtown.
Also Arn, we may still have the Cooke JSA 50 variant cover. If we do, and I could get it, would you be interested?

I got Jack & Shit.
My comic book shop is too far away for me to travel to on the weekends just to pick up a few books.
Even before I started shopping at a bigger shop, my old LCS never had any deals on FCBD and when it came to giving away a free book he would always give me just one book on FCBD and it was usually some throwaway piece of shit.
I haven't once had a FCBD I actually enjoyed.

XIII hates Darwyn Cooke and thinks he is a hack who can't write worth shit & scammed his way into writing comics. Don't even get XIII started on what a piece of shit The New Frontier was.Tragic Angelus wrote:

Why haven't you said something? You know more than one of us occasionally work in a shop and we could have gotten you a book or two that you would have been interested in. If we weren't completely out of FCBD books I'd send something to you that you would have wanted.Mr Wallstreet wrote:I got Jack & Shit.

The offer is appreciated but I'm not looking for anything in particular. It's mostly about having a positive FCBD experience. I wouldn't care at all if the free comics I got on FCBD were of shitular quality as long as it was a fun experience.
As it stands getting a throwaway copy of a lame comic from a guy who didn't really care about FCBD is what irritated me

I imagine a big part of this has to be the fact you are in NYC.Mr Wallstreet wrote:The offer is appreciated but I'm not looking for anything in particular. Small local shops do a good job, the the high volume stores in NYC have to be a shit-show on FCBD and not even really worth it.
