Having never read the book, though I've given it thought on and off, that looked pretty good. Zombie films are usually my least favorite, and why I initially avoided the book. But from what I've been told it's less about and featuring them, and more about the survivors, so I might give the show a chance at only 6 episodes. Plus it'll be kind of nice having no frame of reference when watching it so I won't be spoiled or looking for something.

It looks good, from makeup and effects to just about everything else. Should be enough to get me to watch the first episode at least.

I was really excited when I saw a shaky bootlegged version after Comic Con this year. I watched the trailer again today and I'm still pumped about it. Some of the shots look exactly like the book and the casting for Rick Grimes looks spot on.

Something was bugging me after I watched it. I wanted to see more of the characters and their interactions. Figures like Glenn, Andrea, Tyreese and Shane should of been highlighted. Let's face it, after zombies the biggest components in the book are survival and the interrelationships of the characters.

Also, was it just when I watched it or was the audio off by a few seconds or so? It could've been mine since something stopped for a second, but wasn't sure.

Since the general tv & movie watching crowd is much larger than the comic book/zombie crowd, I can see why AMC would want the trailer to focus on just one person. If you have a seemingly small cast, it makes the show easier to get into. Had they shown a dozen people right off the bat, I imagine it would have put a lot of people who off because then you don't know who the lead is, or who to follow. I'm sure, probably right in the first episode, we'll meet most, if not all of the main cast.

The character interrelationships are a central part of the story, but the viewership has to be eased into that. First & foremost, they'll want to see zombies, zombies, & more zombies. To introduce them to a bickering group of people would be just another way to turn thm off to the show.

Tragic, that wasn't just you, it was mine as well and I watched it on 2 different computers and my iPhone. Apparently the audio got screwed up as a few others on the internet have mentioned this.

You should definitely check out the first few eps. My experience is that its always hard to guage a show based soley on the pilot. You need to let a show get a few episodes under its belt before you can get a good feel for it. My only problem is that TWD is premiering on Halloween and I probably won't be home to see it. I'll probably DVR it.

I'll most likely watch the whole season, since it's only 6 episodes, which I'm guessing are an hour outside of the pilot, which is 90 minutes. Either way, 6 episodes isn't a lot to gauge a show, but it's enough to think whether or not you'd want to keep up with something like that if it were going to be on more regularly.

Ahh so pissed off. Yesterday in front of Madison Sq. Garden there was a huge promo going on for The Walking Dead w/actors decked out as zombies & all sorts of other TWD goodness by the AMC network and I missed it. So angry!!!!

Walking Dead season premier tonight. Woo Hoo! All kinds of excited.

AMC, Kirkman & Frank Darabont (Director) have been heavily promoting this series for nearly a year. I can't remember the last time I saw a director put as much effort into promoting a show as Darabont. He's been all over the map and has been on AMC every evening during their 13 nights of horror plugging TWD at every available moment.

It's gonna be good!

I'll probably watch it, if only since the season's short. Though I've still got a lot of work to do tonight. Hope it's good, since Zombie things just don't usually entice me.

Having watched the first episode I was instantly hooked. Granted I have a huge bias towards TWD it was still a well done trailer. There wasn't an excess of gore, violence or cheap jump scare.

It remained suspenseful throughout 80% of the episode. To me thats what true horror is. Keeping you at the edge of your seat & biting on your fingernails; not yanking your intestines out and making you eat them (I'm looking at you SAW franchise).

The hospital scene was a wonderful bit of tv making. Rick getting up off the bed and wandering around still half drugged trying to wrap his mind around what had happened in the hospital and recoiling at every new horror he encountered. The lead actor is very talented because he could have just as easily half-assed it because it was a "zombie" film but instead he delivered his performance perfectly. He didn't oversell it or undersell it. Finally that bit where he gets home to find pretty much the entire town deserted was well done as well. Watching him trying to grasp whether this is real or if he was dead or alive was another great bit of acting.

All in all an excellent first episode.

I did, however, have two issues with it. 1) The explanation Morgan was giving Rick about what had happened when they were all having dinner made no sense at all. For a fan like me who knows everything that happened that explanation didn't make any sense so I can only imagine what it would have been like for a non-fan of the show or to Rick's character. You'd think a simple: People started dying then coming back to life for some unknown reason would have been simpler and more sufficient but no; instead Morgan spoke in cryptic circles about what had happened.

My second concern (not really a problem - yet) was that the upcoming episodes feature the show to be more action-heavy which kind of makes sense given the location they are in and the desire to attract a wider audience. However, I hope they retain the suspense for the show. It's really what made the first ep really spectacular and realistically what set it apart from the the dime a dozen other zombie films.

Overall I am very satsifed with the first ep and look forward to many many more eps (knock on wood).

As someone who's never read the books, I pretty much agree with Wally on this one entirely.

It was a great episode that really managed to hook me into the show. I'm not a fan of zombie films or stories at all, but this one really hooked me in. Like he said, there weren't constant scenes of flesh being ripped off or people always constantly in immediate danger so the 'gore' aspect of horror was really dropped. There were some gruesome scenes yes (That poor, poor horse) but overall I wasn't disgusted with the show.

I felt it was really really well shot and put together. I could quite literally see the panels as they were happening, able to imagine how a few panels of suspense could go buy where you see a body getting closer, or slowly fading out of view in them. Though I've never read it, I felt like I could see how those panels might have worked out in the book and I thought that was a really really great job on the creators parts.

Also, the lack of intense 'suspense music' in horror scenes really grounded the show in some sense of reality. It reminded me a lot of "The Body" episode of Buffy, where there's no music to make the death of her mother real. This made the reality of the show and situation that much more real and let the viewer (or at least me) really see the situation as something that could be happening.

I'm really looking forward to the next episode, and if I can afford it or get the chance to, I'll probably read through the first trade after the season finishes. To be honest, I don't want the first story to spoil this, or vice versa so I'm not constantly comparing the two.

My favorite part was watching Morgan (I believe?) having to try to kill his wife. The emotion and power in that scene had me feeling terrible for him, and I thought that actor did an incredible job.

If you didn't watch it, I highly suggest you watch the first episode. It's a great way to spend 1.5 hours, and I'm sure it'll hook you in. Like I said, I don't care for the Zombie genre, but I do care for this show now.

LOVED the first episode, which had quite some suspense.

I'll have to say Shane and Lori were kinda off, though. Shane was never shown as such a sexist dick, and Lori never would've gone through that speech.

But all in all a very good first episode.

Stephen King and his son Joe Hill are in talk to write an episode for season 2.

Also, season 1 is premiering in France tonight on cable. Reviews I've read tend to agree with your statement as well : final episode is definitely a letdown compared to the rest of the season.

Have it all on my disk, I still need to watch it.

Highly suggest you do, even if the final ep was a let down in a way. I think many felt it was just because it deviated so much from the book. While it wasn't the same quality as previous episodes, I still found myself enjoying it.
