BRIGHTEST DAY #8

Not a bad week, though so long as this Uncanny is a step up from the last. Some big back story for Buffy too.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Riley One Shot
Star Wars Legacy #50!
Air #24
Streets of Gotham #15
Fables #97
JSA #42
Uncanny X-Men #527

Big, big, great, great sad, sad week. A lotta great titles come out this week and several are ending. Buffy, SoG, & JSA have been consistently solid reads, so I'm looking forward to them.

On the other end, the final Star Wars Legacy issue comes out which I have been waiting for since it was unexpectedly announced that 50 would be the final issue; however, I'm pretty sure that this is just the last issue of Ostrander & Dursuuma's run. The Legacy title will probably be relaunched between 6-12 months with a new creative team that will pick up, more or less, where these two left off.

Though, I don't collect the singles, Ex Machina's final issue comes out as well.

Is this the last issue of Air or do we have to muscle through one more?

All in all, great week.

Very right, but still, it means Weapon X is canceled as it was a big failure, sales-wise.

Concerning Weapon X, Paul O'Brien from House to Astonish reckons the problem was that it was perceived as another Wolverine book rather than the core book. So, people thought that it was the 'optional' Wolverine title of the many Wolverine titles.

As Mitch says, it's getting re-released as a different title. It's not like they are going to give up on Jason Aaron and Ron Garney when their short Wolverine run, 'Get Mystique' sold rather well.

Atlas is an interesting title.
I'd love to know Marvel editorial's opinion about it. I love this book and I'm guessing Marvel love Jeff Parker, since he's writing a number of their books now. I'm guessing that it's because Marvel love JP, they were reluctant to cancel Atlas, a book which has had numerous attempts to try and bring in readers. Sales unfortunately indicate that not enough people care for it. The book's fantastic, but I guess it was never going to appeal to a wide enough audience. Shame, but well done Marvel for giving a book a generous try.

What's the deal with Air? You know my opinion. I thought it was shit. Female protagonist has usual female woe and any problems that arise in her day are somehow the fault of the man she loves. Has this book just not picked up enough sales? When I look at something like Chew, I kind of wonder if books like Air would have seemed more important and possibly gotten more exposure if it was a big launch for a smaller publisher rather than an interesting launch for the small, fringe stuff publisher of the big publisher.

In other news...

About Weapon X, I don't know if they are not giving up on Aaron/Garney on Wolvie but the new book will be penciled by Renato Guedes so I don't know if your point is valid.

About Air : you can't compare it with Chew. Chew sales about 11,000 copies a month. Air wasn't even reaching the 6,000.
I won't regret it, it was my least favourite ongoing. Milligan can keep that issue of mine.

Yes, in retrospect, Air#1 seems less significant.

No more Aaron/Garney?! Noooooo!

I'm not comparing the sales of Chew to Air so much as I am the perception of it when it's just another fringe title from a giant publisher.
