Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne

Post by Tragic Angelus »

Ok, so we're four issues in and I have to say.. I'm confused half the time, and really enjoying and following along the other half.

I'm reading Batman & Robin as well, so those issues have kind of played in, but I feel there's a bit of confusion when you get a different artist every issue. I understand they want a style that fits each time period, but it doesn't help when you have characters or family lines that are supposed to re-occur over time and look a bit different each time.

Also in the first two issues, the Superman and Wonder Woman symbols played out as big deals, but I don't recalls seeing them in issues 3 or 4.

My favorites so far have been issues 1 (Caveman) and 3 (Pirate), the two easiest issues to follow in my opinion. 2 (Puritan) wasn't bad, but I didn't care for the art all that much, and 4 (Cowboy) seemed a bit confusing to me, though I loved a dose of Jeanty's art since Buffy's been on a break. Hopefully the next two really come together to make some sense.

I agree with you on this. I regret picking up Return of Bruce Wayne. It feels so clunky and disjointed. This is one of those signature times when Morison's weirdness kicks in into overdrive and the title makes little or no sense.

I honestly feel sometimes Morisson just writes weird shit because he feels it'll make the story better but it winds up just making it harder to follow.

Some parts are interesting & enjoyable but then the title ends and picks up again and you're back to wtf just happened/ is going on. The caveman issue was okay, lil confusing; the pirate & puritan stories were much better but the cowboy story just blew hard chunks.

Everything about it was just off.

I'll definitely be skipping the Bruce Wayne titles that launch in October.

See, I'm opposite on the Puritan issue. I hugely disliked that one. Caveman and Pirate were ok tho.

And yea, I'm wondering if this just has to make more sense as a whole story, all six issues plus the return issue. It's Morrison's style afterall.
