Birds of Prey #1 Variant Edbert Edition

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

While I was on vacay, I missed out on BoP #1. However, Ed used his Jedi powers to foresee that my LCS would screw up and not hold down a copy of ish #1 for me, so he picked it up and sent it to me. Many thanks to Ed for that.

So the story itself was okay, nothing special but a simple re-introduction of the main players: Babs, Dinah, Helena & Zinda along with the intro of Hawk & Dove. The story was interspersed with bits of action & Simones brand of humor. The art was fantastic. People (XIII) tend to rag on Benes for being a cheesecake artist without any substance but I think its looks and flows wonderfully.

Most of the enjoyment I got from this issue was just reading BoP all over again. I'm definitely looking forward to to the upcoming issues.

Glad it was well recieved and safe on delivery.

I agree, it was a great read, and really simple to jump into and follow, and this coming from the point of view of someone who'd never read BoP before. But after that issue, I wish I had. Really simple story to open up with Dinah, and the main idea to bring them all back together was kind of a.. I don't know, used method?, but I did like the intro at the end. I'll definitely be following for awhile.

You really need to check out the the old paperbacks of BoP by Simone & Benes. They are simply fantastic and though Benes leaves the art duties later and is replaced by someone else, the story is still top notch. I highly reccomend them.

It's definitely a book I want to collect via trade if I have to as far as the previous volume goes. I've really really come to love Simone's writing regardless since Wonder Woman, and regret not getting Secret Six when it started up. Hopefully soon I can look into BoP trades.
