Chris Evans cast as Captain America

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

Yea or Nay?

After nearly two years of speculation, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on Monday that Chris Evans will be playing Marvel Comics' iconic hero Captain America in the big-screen adaptation.

I've got my reservations but I'll give him a chance. A lot people have already pointed to his shoddy performance in FF as proof he shouldn't be Cap, however, I'd argue that FF suffered more from shoddy writing and directing than actor performance. I also think Cellular was a highly underrated movie.

And Hugo Weaving is going to play The Red Skull

Thoughts?

Has it been confirmed now? Earlier this morning I read it was confirmed by a source but both Evan's and Marvel's reps hadn't said anything.

I don't know what to think. he seemed to fit the attitude for Johnny, but I don't know how he'll do as Cap just yet. I'm sure he's got a bit of range to try out, but I haven't seen him in much else outside of a teen movie here and there.

Seems odd, with them wanting their movie universe to be close, Marvel just made sure they can't ever let the FF guest-star in a Cap or Avengers movie.

FF is getting re-booted and is controlled by Fox.

I am willing to give him and Marvel the benifit of the doubt at least until I see the first trailer or the movie itself. these constant reboots are pissing me off. ok yeah FF and Daredevil was not all that great so the SAME company is gonna re make it! why not do it right the first time!! I would rather see Marvel get all the rights back so they can have one cohesive universe

I thought rebooted Hulk film was damn good. The only reason it performed as "terribley" as it did, was due to poor marketing. The FF, DD, Elektra films are in definite need of a complete overhaul.

I read an interesting article on what the supposed real reason was, for rebooting the Spider-man franchise. It seems that rather than continuing the Spider-man franchise with a new director after Raimi left, studio exectives wanted to get in on the new target demographic of 6-14 year olds who didn't grow up with the original SM franchise; they grew up while the 2nd or 3rd film came out. The original Spider-man film came out in, what? 01-02? By the time the new Spider-man film comes (2011, or 2012) it'll have been roughly 10 years since the original premiered.

The children/teens who grew up with the original Spider-man franchise will have grown up by then and likely will be around for the next batch of films regardless, while simultaneously going for the whole new target audience that was never introduced to Spider-man from the begining.

Obviously there is no proof to back this up. Just what the article was speculating but still, I thought it was interesting, if kind of out there. I think no matter what, kids will flock to go see a Spider-man or any super hero film if its done well and marketed well.
