Castle

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

Castle premiered on the abc network (I think) last year. I netflixed it this week and began watching it. The show stars Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic. It's about a writer (Fillion) who partners with an NYPD detective (Katic) so he can gather research about the detective, violent crimes and police procedure, killers and what-not all for his upcoming new book series. The way the writer gets permission to accompany the detective on cases is ridiculous and laughable but you go along with it because it hardly matters. Its just a throwaway means to kick off the show.

The show itself isn't breaking new ground by any means but its an enjoyable way to kill an hour, it has a very "buddy cop" vibe to it, lots of light humor and never getting too violent/bloody or gorey; if it were a film it'd be PG-13. The pilot episode was kind of "out there" as far as some the things Fillion's character said and did but I'm willing to give it a solid couple of episodes to either win me over or bore me. The show itself isn't that smart and generally offers easy answers as to who the real culprit is if you pay attention.

Its a decent show, nothing original but I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone doesn't care for shows like The Mentalist and Bones, which it borrows heavily from as far as formula and supporting cast are concerned.

Nathan Fillion is the only reason this show does not suck.

Funny note. The book he is shadowing her to write, was actually ghost written and released not too long ago.

I'd kind of like to give it a shot, if only for Fillion and the Bones-esque formula, but I've yet to ever get around to it. I'm a year behind on Bones as it is, so I'm not sure when I'll add on another new show.
