Cobie Smulders (How I Met You Mother) has been cast as Maria Hill in the Avengers film.

What was once “very likely” is now “yes definitely.” How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders is officially on board as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in the 2012 Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers film, says Variety.

Smulders is familiar to Whedon fans — she was reported as a front-runner for the role of Wonder Woman when the writer/director was attached to that property

I don't really know anything about Maria Hill so I'm indifferent towards the news. The budget for this film will be huge though. Between the huge salaries for the stars, special effects & marketing. It'll probably need to crack upwards of $500 million to begin to turn a profit. It's probably doable though.

Secondly, Nathan Fillion is signed on to provide the voice for Hal Jordan in DC's upcoming 2nd GL animated movie.

I'm a fan of Fillion but I felt Chris Meloni, who voiced Hal in the previous animated film, did a really great job so I'm hesitant to see him replaced. However, I am willing to give Fillion a chance.

This probably isn't as costly for the paychecks are you might think. Ensemble cats are generally cheaper, as they pay them far less than scale than the actors do't do as much work. Secondly, only RDJ is the only huge star in the cast, everyone else is is fairly minor.

Thirdly, I also think it is generally the practice to give them small paychecks, and then a cut of the gross profits to make up the difference.

The next DC animated film from Warner Priemer, after Green Lantern, is going to be Batman: Year One. Though I've expressed the desire to see animated films for other DC characters (Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman etc...) I'm really excited about an animated Batman: Year One.

Though the DCAU animated films are seen as "kids" stuff, most of the DC films have always toed the line at PG-13. However, between the blood, violence, minimal swearing & sometimes heavier themes that are either implied or shown off screen (rape, prostitution & decapitation) they've always managed to stay in the relative safety of the PG & PG-13 zone.

Batman: Year One will be a great challenge for DC to see how much they're willing to push the envelope in terms of making their animated films more adult oriented. Most of Batman: Year One deals with very adult themes that you'd typically see in a Scorsese gangster film: political corruption, graft, drug use, (child) prostitution, extortion, racketeering & police brutality.

I look forward to it.

Same, same. Sam Jacksons probably got got a couple million for his Iron Man appearances, which would have been a couple days work, same with Scarlett.

Neither of which would be a 20 million movie star, ,Scarlett hasn't even been in a big budget film as a lead in 5 years?
