4 Months. Who had their Money on 4 Months? (1/18/12)

BATMAN #5
DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #5
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #678
UNCANNY X-MEN #5

Batman is the top book this week for me, with Uncanny and DCU Presents right behind. But this is the last issue of the Deadman story, so I'm done with DCUP after this month.

And with this week, Justice League does not ship, making it the first book to miss it's shipping date as far as I can tell. It is scheduled to ship next week though I believe.

BATMAN #5
FABLES #113
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #5
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #678
SUPERIOR #7
UNCANNY X-FORCE #20
UNCANNY X-MEN #5

My brother increased rent for me so I'm making some cuts on the duller DCnU titles. There goes Justice League International, Batgirl, Batwoman, Nightwing, and GL Corps, Wonder Woman. I'm on the edge with Aquaman, Swamp Thing, and Animal Man. All of those I'm enjoying but if I need to I can see me cutting them. Even cutting all those doesn't even cover half of the rent increase, but at least it's a start.

Batman #5
Birds of Prey #5
Catwoman #5
Fables #113
Wonder Woman #5
Avengers #21
DareDevil #8
Uncanny X-Men #5

From last week Batgirl #5

I'm dropping Haunted City and probably Defenders. First 2 issues of Defenders were really lackluster but I'll give it till the end of the first storyline. 4 Months isn't too bad given that it's Lee. I thought for sure he would've missed ish #3.

Lee has some excuses: his wife, the one he stole from Ale Garza, gave birth to a baby girl late in december.

WONDER WOMAN #5 $2.99
FABLES #113 (MR) $2.99

Blah blah blah blah, then she should be up all night drawing next to the baby.

I suppose I meant that DC has it's first late shipping book in general. That it's Justice League, well, that's just icing on the cake. But yes, his wife did give birth right around the holidays. But it makes me think that book, since it was for January, should have pretty much been finished as well. Unless they're pulling it back a week to extend to the next one.

Either way, 4 months of on time books is pretty rare for the big two anymore, so well done there.

Defenders has been fun, if mostly for the Dodson art. I'm still trying to grasp Betty as the new She-Hulk. I don't think I'm fully comfortable with that yet, but I haven't read Hulk in years so I don't know how it all came about. When I was, it was the Bruce Jones run that put Banner back on the run from the law, and Betty was much more a calculating spy than a free spirited She-Hulk.

I'm also not to interested in how Dr. Strange is almost the comic relief. The sleeping with a young co-ed and his apparently inappropriate comment to Betty seem off character for the Dr. Strange I'm used to reading. But again, I'm mostly used to him in minor stories and the last Defenders book he stared in years ago.

The $4 digital code is the entire reason I did not get another issue of Avenging Spider-Man. The first one was fun, but I refused to keep paying for a digital copy that I'll never use. It's one thing if I want just the digital copy, but to get a paper and digital is redundant to me. So far no other books I read are currently doing that, but when and if they do, if it's bundle only then some choices will have to be made.

If it were almost any other artist who was late, I wouldn't care too much. Lee has made it his mission statement to be late on nearly everything he does. That he has a legitimate reason (for once in his life) doesn't alter the fact that he was late on all his other projects for the last 20 years.

Not having read any books featuring Strange or Hulk- probably ever- I don't mind these new alterations to Strange & Betty. I'm just glad they finally moved Betty past the "pining for her love" character and turned her into someone worth reading about

Well, Jim Lee did take the baby with him in his studio one night. Posted pics on Twitter.

I think I'm of the opinion that if you've bought the hard copy, you should have the digital copy thrown in for free too. I think hard copy purchase of a media item should mean purchase of its media file version as well. Perhaps strangely though - although it doesn't feel strange - I'm not of the opinion that a direct online purchase of the media file should mean that the hard copy gets shipped to you.

I kind of know what you mean about having no use for the digital version if you paid for the book. but I think if you were going on holiday, you'd appreciate an ipad/e-reader device with the digital copy on it, so you don't have to drag around the weight of the book(s) with you.
The one thing that

The House to Astonish boys were also pretty impressed that there was a very low late shipping rate for DC, since the September issue number ones.
Who had money on Lee being the proverbial, 'first'? :D

I haven't finished it, but the whole Fall of the Hulks in 2010 or so revealed how Betty and Thunderbolt are now She-Rulk and Rulk (or Red She-Hulk and Red Hulk). Don't know the whole logistics as to how it happened as I didn't finish the huge arc, but maybe that will be my next story to read as I am intrigued...

As far as being late goes, at least it is a pretty legit reason.

Although, as you guys said, the timing does seem off. I would have thought Januarys would have had to have been wrapped up by then so the inker and colorist could finish it.

This, in the grand scheme, I can definitely agree with. I agree that buying a digital should not grant you a hard copy, but the reverse would be ok (hardcopy gets you a digital).

I suppose for me though, I personally have no use or desire for digital copies. I could see the desire to have it as a to go/quick read for vacations and quick travel for some people. But again, I usually don't take comics on vacations, and if I do I only take 1 TPB. I don't care much for reading digital versions. I've tried it and don't like it. I barely like reading previews posted up online.

Another thing is that I don't like having no choice on whether or not I buy a book with a digital download. Some of Marvel's books forced you to buy the combo pack, where DC has given you a choice so far. I like the idea of a choice for those who want both, but if I'm going to have to buy a digital copy, which I don't want, it's going to sit there. I suppose I could "sell" it to a friend for under a dollar, but most of mine don't really download their books either.

I'd simply like to have the choice to buy a hard copy only or a combo pack.
