What If... Geoff Johns Was A Marvel Guy?

Post by Stocky Boy »

So this point popped into my head, when thinking about the Moon Knight relaunch.

What if Geoff Johns was relaunching a Marvel property? Clearly a big 80s/90s denier like Johns would have to have a character like Captain America, The Hulk or even a Luke Cage or a just any non 90s character. As a result of handling one of the above properties, you would expect to see the following happen...

- Captain America would never be Bucky. Winter Soldier who?
- The Hulk would reset General Ross back to who he is
- Luke Cage would be Power-Man dressed in funky disco spandex.

In John's world, the comic reading audience of today grew up with Luke Cage Power Man, therefore everything must be reset to this time period.

Anyone got anything else?
Off the top of my head, if Garth Ennis got hold of any of the big names I'm not sure what to expect. You would either get The Boys or Marvel Max. Grant Morrison? Expect every nano detail of a character's past to be forcefully shoved into a twelve issue series; itself squeezed into a six issue mini series.

If Geoff Johns wrote X-Men, then Magneto, Juggernaut and Emma would be villains.

Though we might have a decent Hellfire Club. But they'd be back in New York and it wouldn't be a school serving dozens of students, only a base for the X-Men. And I like them in San Franciso with about 150 of the world's mutants around.

We'd have 2 Avengers Teams. East and West I'm sure. Cap might be USAgent again too.

If Geoff Johns was a Marvel guy, we could expect some type of relaunch with the notable 70s/80s losers Cloak & Dagger but he'd also reinvent their personalities to a degree to make them seem less loserly (but only marginally so)

I like the idea of making Magneto, Juggs & Emma villains. It's nice to see them allying themselves with the X-Men every now and again but not permanently. The novelty of making bad guys into good guys has long since worn off.

And if Geoff Johns was a Marvel guy, despite appearences to the contrary, he and Quesada would get along famously. They'd both want Peter Parker as a single guy rather than married to Mary Jane. Quesada wouldnt get nearly as much blowback from Johns as he did from JMS when he brought up the idea of retconning the Parker/Jane marriage. All Quesada would have to say is: Divorce and Johns would latch onto the idea and spin into a 3 part epic in the vein of Rebirth, Sinestro Corp War & Blackest Night and make it seem slightly less stupid than Quesada's whole "It's magic bitches, I can do what I want".

If Ennis was a Marvel guy, he'd kill anyone who wore a cape or had a super power and/or didn't serve in their country's armed forces.

So we'd be down to Punisher, Nick Fury, Captain America & Bucky
