DC Movies bombing at Box Office big time

Jonah Hex opened this past weekend at #6 at the Box office with $5 million. Not only was it a box office failure but a critical failure as well; and this on the heels of The Losers which did not live up to expectations, the Spirit.

DC has finally got their act together and are producing more comic films but they are doing an awful job with it. They need to get better soon if they want to get back in the game.

This has me worried about the Green Lantern film; despite having a stellar creative team of writers, directors & actors.

I think I found one of the contributing factors of Hex's failure:

Incidentally, Akiva Goldsman is one of the film’s producers. Which means the same guy who helped carpet bomb the first Batman franchise just cut the theatrical legs out from under another DC character.

They film went through 2 directors, 50 pages of re-shoorts (average script is 100 pages), was 72 minutes long, and other problems.

It was a fucking disastrous from the get go.

I'm hoping GL will be better, as it is a big budget, main character production.

I think that's a big part of it too, being character selection. Mass appeal is going to lean towards GL than to Jonah Hex.

Iron Man, while not prominant too much outside of comics in additional media, exploded due to star power, budget, and all in all a well done job. Spider-Man had that mass appeal and it worked. Marvel's success with Blade, a lesser known character, can't always be duplicated in other lesser known titles.

Batman and Superman will always be draws for DC, and hopefully GL will bring in enough to draw up interest in Flash and Wonder Woman. And with a casting for Amanda Waller, I think they're going to try to pull an interconnected Universe like Marvel, to help draw in interest in future films.

And Hex was cut from a R-rating to a PG-13 rating which included removing the Megan Fox sex scene. Fanboys heard that and walked away, it seems.

I loved the movie, didn't make the most scenes with the background info (but then again I haven't read much Hex before) but thought it was interesting.

if DC wants to actually make money with the movies they put out they have to actually GIVE a SHIT about the material!! they have to put money into it to get money out!

If DC wants to make money off movies, they just need to start making some good movies.
