I Sell The Dead

I Sell The Dead

I saw this over the weekend; it’s a pretty good indie film. It’s a horror/comedy film starring Dominic Monaghan & Ron Pearlman. The time & place of this film is not explicitly stated but it seems like Ireland around the 19th century.

The film details the relationship and misadventures of two grave robbers (Arthur & Willie); how they met, their trade and how they dealt with various other individuals along the way from constables, morticians, blackmailers & rival gangs and how they wind up in their current situation.

The movie takes a much lighter approach to the horror genre without becoming campy and I think part of this is due to the low budget. It’s got a very Evil Dead feel to it There is hardly any CGI used here and most of the monsters are stuntmen wrapped in bandages but very well made up. The make-up, story & acting didn’t feel half-assed at all – which is the mark of really good movie. The actors knew the limitations of the film and still gave it their all.

There was a nice bit of humor here and there but the way the story unfolds is really what draws you in.

I would highly recommend I Sell The Dead to anyone looking good horror film that doesn’t fall into every single trap that current horror movies fall into; it’s not torture porn, a slasher flick, or a thriller dressed up as a horror film.
