I saw these two films over the weekend.

The first one, REC, is a spanish horror film that was remade by the U.S. into the film called Quarantine. A lot of people (on the internets) have said that REC was far better than the U.S. remake, however, after seeing it I have to disagree. The U.S. version wasn't any worse or better than the original Spanish film. The U.S. remake followed the original quite almost to the letter both in story, dialogue, pacing and even atmosphere with only 2-3 real differences that. There differences were:

1) In the U.S. remake there was a little more dirty humor in the begining of the film

2) In the U.S. The characters in the film explained what the infection was that causing people to behave in a psychotic manner (an unknown and advanced strain of rabies)

3) The cameraman killed an infected person by beating her to death with his camera.

Those were it and, again, didn't really make the film better or worse to me.

Carriers was another zombie/infection film except this was done almost entirely without zombies.

This film wasn't about the zombies/infected so much as it was just about the journey to reach a safe place (except without being chased by zombies for once). The four main characters are two brothers, two women; one of the women is the girlfriend of one of the brothers.

The four are trying to get to a beach where the brothers had spent their summers. The reason they're traveling there isn't based on any real intelligence but more because the brothers were happiest there and its far from people where they hope to wait out the infection. The infected themselves aren't raging, screaming freaks like in 28 Days Later or REC or Dawn of the Dead. They're just sick people who are dying of an unknown disease. And again, like most other post-apocalyptic films, society has broken down and lawlessness is running rampant, the foursome have to deal with other people they meet along the way who all have agendas of their own. However, unlike other post-apocalyptic films, instead of seeing abandoned cars on driveways and dead people littered on the streets, the foursome only meet a handful of people on their journey and very, very few infected.

If you like zombie/post-apocalypitc films I would strongly reccomend this. Even if you're not into zombie films, this is a zombie film done with a very different tone and style.

I really liked Carriers.
[REC] was also awesome. Quarantine, the American remake, was a lot less enjoyable.
