Buffy The Vampire Slayer to be Rebooted

A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen.
"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.

I suspect this move was primarily motivated by the success of
Twilight and, to a lesser degree, the success of rebooting the
Star Trek Franchise. I was satisfied with the way the Buffy tv series ended and am content with the monthly series from Darkhorse so my initial response to the news was “meh†so I won’t be running out to see it, however, I will rent it if/when it comes out.

I'm already not pleased by this.
Joss will be forced to 'audition' if he wants to have any part in the film, rather then them going strait to him. Also, they don't want ot use ANY of the characters introduced in the series, leaving Willow, Xander, Giles, and anyone else completely out of the picture.
I'd be fine if they wanted to do the Star Trek deal, and reboot it to a different way, but follow that same style and bring in the core characters. Don't just ditch them and act like they're not real.
So far, I'm not happy. Unless Joss is involved, and also declares this as canon, I'll treat it like all the novelizations that have come about: Unnecessary, and not important.

I'm fine with it as long as they don't change anything canon or use a new actor(ess) for any pre-established characters. AKA don't fuck with the Scoobies or we will lynch you.

The plan is to use NO pre-estabilished characters from the articles I've read, with the exception to Buffy, and I'm sure if Joss isn't attached SMG won't be either. Hell, She's the last person I'd expect to be involved with this film really. I'm sure they'll go for a new actress.

WANT?
The way I figure is they CAN'T. They probably only have the rights to the movie, and all the Scoobies weren't in the movie. They simply don't have the rights to them.
That said, I think it's a rather stupid idea. I could care less ,but it just is stupid since Buffy = Whedon in the eyes of the fans.

That's a good point as well, but to bring in most of the fanbase you'd think they'd make attempts at getting those rights. And to do that, guess who'd they'd need?
He said (litterally) a few words on the news in a very very very short interview about it, where there was only one question asked about what he thought, to which he replied "I hope it's cool"
But without hearing the tone of his voice, who knows what his real reaction is. I'm sure he's biting his tounge some just incase he is called in by them and offered something.

Hey bitches! After that punk motherfucker Jerkstein Whedon wiped his arse over The Runnaways, it's fair game for someone else to have a go at his work.

Oh by the way, you like X.Men Legacy, right? ;D
Apparantly in the last issue Carey retconed Whedon's portrayal of Xavier as a total prick. Is this right? I have it on good authority (Paul O'Brien blog - natch) that Carey went for the angle that Xavier was trying to help the sentient Danger remove itself from the system, but Xavier was just too crap to free her/it. Sounds like a much better take on Xavier than him being an outright immoral cock and imprisoning a sentient being, because he feels the benefits to his cause outweigh the human rights issue, which of course is curiously ironic and speciest for a guy whose main goal is to make a dominant group accept a minority group's existence and co-exist in freedom, together peacefully as one.
So, basically, I guess what I'm saying is: fuck Whedong!
Fuck him and fuck all you nut-hugging fan-pussies! If, say, some crappy director like Brett Ratner wants to smear his turd-like creativity over your precious franchise in the name of profit than I'm all for it.
N.B. 'Nut-hugging' is a term I've picked up from an MMA (cage fighting) website. Fans of fighters who endlessly praise a fighter and denounce other fighters are said to be hugging the nuts of their favourite fighter. Hence 'nut-huggers'.

Yes yes, the whole Xavier/Danger thing kind of came to a resolve, where Xavier explained why he kept her/it imprisoned for all those years, but I wouldn't say it retconed Whedon's portrayal of him as much as expanded on it. If you count that as a retcon, then Carey has completely retconed EVERYTHING Xavier has ever done with his story of the 'new' Charles Xavier mapping out his new world.
And it's no different then how you all nut-hug Morrison, so I don't want to hear it.

Obviously if we want to discuss this stuff, we should take it to the Marvel forum. Clearly, it's intefering with my good posts about how Whedon doesn't deserve to be attached to a Buffy movie.
That said, just quickly, if you'll humour me (plus it gives you something better to respond to in a Marvel thread, if you want)... Carey 'expands'.
I don't know what it is exactly, but there's obviously this current movement amongst writers/editors to modernise the stories that were told during the more innocent times. Add a bit of edge. Maybe cast some bad light on established good guys. Round the character out to be less perfect, more relatably human than simply an ideal dude. Whedon, doing a similar thing instead wrote a character change. In fact, that story he wrote depended on the reader going into the story mostly liking Xavier so that the revelation of his douchebaggery hit harder. If you felt he was a douche going into the story, the pay off is the X.Men's grown up flipping off of Xavier through Scott voicing of matters. This is quite interesting. But, if you go in liking Xavier, then you get the grown up flipping off and the final straw that broke the camels back, which I can only conclude is what was intended by that storyline.
It's kind of like someone writing something off putting about Giles after that rite of passage depowering of Buffy episode. That story put pressure on Giles and made him look like a douche. He came out in the end though in that episode, but if they kept following it up with no future moments of him 'doing the right thing' then you get character 180 degree turns rather than motivational expansions where the character shows moments of shadyness, but always pulls through in the end.
Just to mention though: no one's nut-hugging Morrison for Final Crisis. No one's defending that turd. Although if you were refering to X.Men and specifically Magneto, I can go over all that if you want.
Anyway, let's get back to the good stuff and how we're all excited how someone with more talent than Whedon (Brett Ratner) is going to rewrite Buffy.
I'd love it very much if Giles (played by Gary Busey) is cast to be a vampire rapist. That is so where the character's supposed to go.
