Who, exactly?

Many thanks to MGM for closing the old incorrectly spelled thread for Doctor Who. I gives me a chance to do it the right way.
I'm a quarter of the way through season 2. I'm liking Tennant more and more. Mickey has just joined the Doctor and Rose.
I haven't seen Hyde nor hair of Captain Jack Harkness since the season finale of season 1. That's very weird

Mickey actually grows on you. I wasn't a huge fan of him for awhile.
Don't forget that they think Captain Jack is dead. He does pop up towards the end of Season 3.
If you don't know, he also is part of the tv show Torchwood (anagram of Doctor Who) that began airing between Season 2 and 3 of Doctor Who. It doesn't crossover but it's a fun watch. Netflix only has Season 1-3 of it with Season 4 in disputes with the production company (Starz, I think) over its release.

I'm trying to work out why they think Captain Jack is dead...Yes he does get kilt but then a bunch of people get resurrected including Jack - which I assumed they knew about. I dunno it seems kinda murky but I'm glad he'll reappear.
Once I'm done with Doctor Who, I'll give Torchwood a try. So far it's been mentioned several times in the background of Doctor Who episodes. Is the Torchwood series itself somewhat like X-Files?
I didn't care much for Mickey in the beginning. He was pretty clearly written as a coward and/or loser boyfriend. I am glad they're trying to give him more depth but I'm hoping they give it to him soon. Seeing him wallow in self pity is getting tiresome - as well as trying to play Rose off against the Doctor
