Amazing Spider-Man 2

Post by Tragic Angelus »

So what did everyone think? Spoilers will pop up of course.

I really enjoyed it. Definitely upped the level of mayhem and destruction from the previous film, and it fit. They made Electro a near team level threat and I liked it.

The multiple villains angle worked well this time, as they used Rhino exactly like I thought they would. I liked DeHaan's performance of Harry Osborne. Still can't figure out who he reminded me of the whole time. Visually he comes off like a young DiCaprio, but his performance made me think of someone else. I liked it though.

Plenty of little hints and shout outs through the beginning, and the biggest ones that we've seen come at the end.

Fun movie, and I'd like to see it again. I think the first Amazing Spider-Man may have it beat, but damn if I won't now almost completely forget the Tobey Maguire ever played Spider-Man because Andrew Garfield is just perfect at it to me.

I'm seeing it after work today (so a little over 4 hours from now). I'll post my reaction when I get home tonight.

I walked out of the theatre thinking that it was a very well done movie. However, I felt it should have been better. The story was, overall, very average, and seemed than it actually was due to the superior cast.

My main problem with the film was several things: Electro looked very awkward and clumsy; like they couldn't figure out the right look for him and kind just said "fuck it, close enough". His entire personality was 2 dimensional. Nearly every villain from the first series had more depth than Electro.

Turning Harry into the Green Goblin was something I didn't like at all. We hardly knew Harry and before we know it, he starts juicing and BAM he's the Green Goblin. It just seemed like an excuse to kill Gwen Stacey and establish Peter & Harry as Frenemies. A lot of the plot points just didn't fit together.

I thought the subplot of Richard & Mry Parker was far more interesting than all of the major plot points.

It also didn't help my mood that towards the end of the movie a group asshole high school students in the audience started talking loudly and making stupid jokes. I swear, people like that should just be fucking ejected from the theatre.

By far the best thing about the movie was the cast. Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and the emo kid playing Harry. Jamie Fox's depiction of Electro before and after his accident was different shades of awful.

Similarly, Paul Giamatti as the Rhino was...well it was short. That's about the only good thing I can say about it.

Oh and the ending; that kid running out to confront the Rhino, that fucking mother should have her child taken away from her. That woman was watching the Rhino shoot the shit out of the police like she was at the movies.

I was underwhelmed. I can't pinpoint what it is but I couldn't get into the movie.
It wasn't bad, but there wasn't the thing that made me like the first movie.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Green Goblin but the Rhino was just as bad as you can expect it to be on the big screen.

Am i the only one that thought that the Green Goblin in this movie looked just like the Green Goblin from Spidey 3? Both Harry Osborns versions.
