So what did you think?

Great sci-fi movie, bad Superman movie. I get that he's still learning his powers, but he should have at least tried to save people around him besides a couple at the beginning and end of the huge action.

I'll write more about this later. But, overall I thought it was a 7/10.

It seems like it's a film with the aim of introducing the first hero of a DC universe. The action in the last 30 minutes is relentless, but this isn't always enjoyable, because it's the same pace for so long and very samey.
I liked the emphasis on the alien aspect of Superman. I liked the de-powering. I liked seeing a new way of telling a 'first' Superman film, but at the same time it's more like the next film is going to be a 'young' Superman film than this one was.

I for one really enjoyed it. I thought it was fun, and I was glad they spaced out the 'origins' aspect of Clark learning about his powers and heritage, rather than make the first 30 minutes or so of the movie go Krypton to Earth to growing up. I liked how we got it all in glimpses and flashbacks throughout the movie when it was actually related to what was going on at the time in the present. Very nice move. I'd go see it again in theaters. It was much more a popcorn movie to watch and not think through. I thought the powers were done very well and I wasn't disappointed in how they looked on screen.

I didn't like the aspect of Superman not really caring whether or not civilians might be in danger.
Like the Smallville fight, not once does he try to take it to the cornfield instead of the main street.
It's got great visuals though.

It's got great visuals though.

For me, the kicker was [spoilers] during the fight at IHOP with Pete Ross standing in the corner. Superman could have easily grabbed Zod and flew out, yet they instead fought in there for a bit. No sign of concern at all that his childhood friend could become collateral damage.

I enjoyed it. It was a great film. It reintroduced Superman into today's world in a way that made sense (except for one giant gaping plot hole which I'll get to later).

I liked the non-traditional re-telling of the origin; Superman slowly learning to use his powers and a realistic depiction of the level of devastation (and the implied deaths) a super hero battle fought in the middle of a bustling city would cause. I think the destruction wrought during the fight scene in metropolis is what Garth Ennis has always been saying would happen if a super hero battle took place there.

I also liked that of all super hero films made thus far, Superman was the first one (I think) to tackle the issue of killing your adversery to save innocents and it wasn't cop out like Batman "not killing Ra's but not saving him either" or in Avengers where Tony flew a nuclear war head into an alien dimension and committed genocide but it was okay beauty they were non-human looking aliens and/or robots.

Russel Crowe, Kevin Costner & Diane Lane all did great jobs in their respective roles. I feel two ways about Michael Shannon. I can't tell if he did a great job or an awful job as Zod. Shannon portrayed Zod like his head was about to explode. He was constantly screaming and yelling.

The thing that wasn't included (that made me sad) was the lack of Clark/Lois/Superman love triangle. I always enjoyed Clark keeping the dual identity from Lois (for a while at least) until she figured it out.

The big plot hole that me snort in derision was the military not knowing how to discover who Superman really is. Lois, on her reporters salary was able to find him and she had nothing to star with. Zod spent 10 minutes talking to Ma Kent for goodness sakes and at the end of the movie, Clark tells the general that he grew up in Kansas. Half of Smallville knows what Clark can do. It shouldn't be too hard for the military to hire a couple investigators to find out where Supes is from.

As for the action scenes, as non-stop and fast pace as they were, I enjoyed it. Didn't mind it a bit
