The Amazing Spider-man (spoilers)

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

I saw it this past friday and it not only lived up to expectations, it exceeded them.

There was a lot more emotional depth between all the characters, especially between Peter and Aunt May. Sally Field plays the role of loving mother/aunt perfectly. Captain Stacy was given more to do than just be a plot point to expand the movie. Emma Stone's performance as Gwen Stacy was great as well. Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker was very different than Tobey's. Garfield's Parker was an outsider in addition to a nerd.

The movie's story, pacing, & special effects were all great. What I especially liked about this film was that the director didn't try and cram too much into the film. We weren't introduced to J. Jonah Jameson, Harry or Norman Osbourne. And even better, Osbourne's face was darkened to add the illusion of mystery.

The one minor criticism I have is that there wasn't just a bit more emotional interaction between Peter & Uncle Ben. I felt a bit more would've have solidified their relationship.

I really enjoyed the film.

I felt they did a good job of using May and Ben just the right amount rather than shoving them in our faces between every scene like the other films. We only see May a few times after Ben dies, and it's just enough to show there is an emotional connection between her and Peter, but we didn't have him running home every 5 minutes to check on Aunt May which is good.

Emma Stone was great as Gwen Stacy, and I really liked how she worked with Garfield. As for Andrew Garfield, what can I say? He was very much more Peter Parker than Tobey was. I liked Tobey as Parker, but here Garfield just out did him. He also was a funnier Spider-Man than Tobey. Maguire attempted to be funny, but it didn't come off right. Garfield actually got more than a few laughs out of me and I enjoyed him as both Peter and Spider-Man. Very good job there.

I liked how we didn't meet his entire cast. Heck, I didn't even realize Jameson wasn't in the film until after it and I thought about it. That to me shows they had a fantastic enough film to entertain and keep me paying attention rather than nitpicking the whole thing. I like how Osborne was kept in the shadows as a powerful controlling figure that we never really see. This is what WB needs to do with Lex Luthor in a Superman film.

I knew what was going to happen to Captain Stacy the minute he took the antidote upstairs, but I was still surprised to see they went with multiple hits to Spider-Man in just the first film. It almost seemed like he had more of a connection to that death than Ben's.

My only complaint was that, while characters hinted at the line, no one ever said "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" which is the driving line behind Spider-Man's actions, along with Ben's Death. I was hoping it was in the voicemail Ben left, but when I didn't hear it I was more than a little disappointed. To me that line is almost like an important character in his life. I'd like to think they'll somehow work it into the film series later on.

Every time Emma Stone was on the screen, I fell in love.

Also, I had a boner.

While it was a perfectly fine film, it lacked something. I realise you can only do so much with the origin of spider-Man, but this movie was pretty much an exact copy of the Maguire Spider-Man.

I felt it was really enjoyable, but like MGM also lacked something.

I think new guy Ben (surname? Barnes?) does a much better Parker than Maguire. I think the acting ensemble actually carry the film.

I don't lack anything, thank you.

Hahaha! Obviously that's supposed to read as, "but like MGM said, I felt it [the film] lacked something".
