Echo *SPOILERS*

Post by ChimeraCreative »

I have both trades of Terry Moore's Echo (Volume 1 Moon Lake, Volume 2 Atomic Dreams) and I've enjoyed them very much. It's released by Abstract Studios. I like Moore's artistry and appreciate that it's simple black and white. The main characters are believably normal people trying to make the best out of bad or sad situations. It's not a bust-your-gut kind of funny but it's quirky and humourous. If you liked Strangers in Paradise, you might wanna give this a try even though the premise is different. Echo has a decisive science fiction slant.

**SPOILERS**

The main character, Julie Martin, is a photographer with her personal life going down the toilet. Her husband is leaving her and her sister is in a mental ward after losing her kids in an accident. While in the desert taking photos of wild flowers a woman testing an atomic flying suit is shot down by the company she works for. Bits of the suit pepper the desert, including Julie and her truck. Eventually the metal comes together and forms a small breastplate that has dangerous properties, like zapping people that come near her with the intention of causing her harm. In fleeing the company that made the suit, the army, and a lady bounty hunter Julie goes on the lam with Dillon Murphy, a park ranger and boyfriend of the original occupant of the atomic suit (now deceased). Julie now seems to have echoes of the deceased lady in her mind.

Naturally, there's a bad guy that's inherited some of the power Julie's gained. A batshit crazy homeless man appears to be following her and uses his metal clad hand to turn people inside out and explode them. Volume two left off with the wino confronting Julie and Dillon in the desert of Nevada.
