Greek Street #1

Quite enjoyed it.
Issue one appears to be the modern re-telling of the Oedipus story featuring the unfortunate Eddie in the least desirable protagonist role. Substitute 'prophecised downfall of the King', as the reason for Oedipus's separation from his family with, 'teenage mum gives up baby for both party's good' and you have the modern premise for the Oedipus story.
I get the feeling I'm missing a reference to another old Greek story/myth to do with the Furey family. The one about the Triad's demands.
I assume I'm missing another one with the dead girl found in the river.

Yeah, I didn't entirely get the Fureys and the dead girl either, but I'm not TOO familiar with the Oedipus story. Or at least, the details.
Loved it, though. Intriguing and good art.

Agree on all points; good story but clearly missing a few references. Right now Greek Street isn't a must-have for me so we'll see how the following issues play out.

Question.
What is good Peter Milligan? I can't remember being blown away by any of his works.

Nothing by Peter Milligan has blown me away yet...
I tried this and it wasn't bad. I'll continue for the first arc or so.
And the whole thing with the Fureys/Furies? In mythology they go after people who have spilt blood of their own (aka killed their son, mother, etc). I remember this because of Sandman, they played a huge part of that towards the end. They have nothing to do with Oedipus. Really the only mythology that Oedipus ties into is the use of the Sphynx (sp)...

X-Force / X-Static?
Human Target?
Shade, the changing man?

I still haven't read Shade.
His Hellblazer isn't that great either.

His Doctor Strange / Dead Girl mini series was brilliant.
Human Target is a critical success. I've got the first and probably second trade. It's all very good, but it's not necessarily for everyone.
X-Statix was another critically praised book.
Most of Milligan's mainstream work isn't his most reknown. He's a bit like Ellis in that way. In fact, Gaiman too. All those creators are best left doing their own projects.
Milligan of course had a fairy recent run on one of the X titles. I flipped through one of the issues in store once. It was as if he was writing cringeingly, macho, dialogue tonge in cheek. He had Apocalypse saying some absolute bullshit in a moment talking to Gambit in private. Same thing in the Doctor Strange mini. He had Strange saying shit like, "by the lilac moons of..." and it all came out knowingly corny.
