Buffy: TVS #24

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

Very good stand alone starring Faith and Giles.

Giles and Faith journey to a town where they hear of a "Slayer Sanctuary" - a place any girl who has become a slayer can go if she doesn't want to fight. The town is headed by a Watcher who is the last remaining Watcher aside from Giles. Needless to say when Faith and Giles arrive, things are not what they appear. The town, led by the Watcher, houses a demon that keeps all vampires away. The only catch is that the demon must be fed regularly with children. The town having run out of children now feeds it Slayers.

Very sick, very twisted.

Faith and Giles find out about this and kill the demon and Watcher must to the townsfolk anger and dismay.

Again, a great stand alone featuring the F&G though it was a little low on the humor, it delivered a nice slice of action, drama and a renewed sense of the kind of depravity humanity is capable of when they're backs are to the walls.

Why did we need to know that when he posted this a month ago?

Why do you care?

What does it matter?

I don't really look at when a thread was started,

I guess these particulars are important to you.

meh...

Update: I read it at lunch.

Eh, not bad. Good characterization of Faith and Giles. REally touched on some old scars.

Enjoyable stand alone (or is it to be continued..?). B+

It read like a stand alone but enjoyable nonetheless. What old scars were you talking about?

I'm going to pick up Buffy #25 today or tomorrow.

I getcha. As far as Faith has come, she has a long way to go. A lot of times I feel as though Faith and Giles should strike out on their own (together). Both have complicated histories with Buffy and can never really seem to work well with her.

Even though Giles acted as a father figure and mentor towards Buffy for much of their tenure together, I believe she's outgrown him; furthermore now he seems to get in Buffy's way from her perspective. Buffy hardly ever asks for Giles' input and almost never seeks his approval on any of her plans and gets annoyed with his Cloak and Dagger stuff.

With Faith, both Buffy and Faith simply cannot stand each other. At all. To the point where they are at each others throats (pun inescapable) putting their missions at risk.

A partnership between Faith and Giles would really be beneficial for both of them. Faith has been through enough that she doesn't need a mentor, but a friend; someone to watch her back and keep her grounded and help her heal. Giles doesn't need, or want, someone to boss around but someone who he can work with, without constantly being shut out. Someone who understands that sometimes an indirect approach works better than a full frontal assault and to do that, dealings with less than scrupulous characters is necessary.

A Faith and Giles spinoff wouldn't be so bad provided the right creative team was on it.

I'd say that pretty much sums it up. The Watchers are stand-offish to each other now, too....they should really expand on that more. The Watchers Council and the in-fighting and possible corruption. how else could they have been caught so unaware?

Faith is in interesting person. This writer did her justice in the issue.
