Green Lantern #43 SPOILERS

Post by Tragic Angelus »

An all Black Hand issue to kick off Blackest Night, and for me, it delivered!

We'd seen a good portion of the issue from various previews, but we get the history of William Hand, his obsession with Death, and why he became Black Hand. Including the voice of the Black Lantern's master speaking to him about reclaiming all the dead who have come back to life. We learn that he regained his hand, and with it the ability to see all of the dead and seak them out it seems.

But the ending is what sold it for me. He returns to his family home, and kills his two brothers and his parents, speaking to the voice the whole time, before finally commiting suicide.

Then, the Gaurdian of teh Black Lantern Corps arrives, and speaks to him while spitting up a Black Lantern Ring to give him. She tells him that like Ion, Parallax, and the Predator (Who from the looks of it belongs to the Violet Lanterns/Star Sapphires), he will be the avatar and entity of the Black Lantern Corps.

Black Hand IS the avatar, the being of representation of the Black Lanterns. To me, that's just freakin awesome!!

See, you didn't really play off the best scene when he committed suicide. What happened was after killing his family, he sits down at the table (where they were in the middle of eating dinner). The BL's master then says "there is one more sacrifice" which leads to a splash page of Black Hand holding his weird astro-rod to his head and blowing his brains out. The art on that page is so frickin awesome! The look on his face when he sacrificed himself was simply brilliant. I completely didn't see him being the first Black Lantern or being the avatar for the entity. Now I wonder what the entity looks like...

And it is strange that "Predator" is the name of the avatar/entity of the Star Sapphires, doesn't really fit with their whole goal...

Sure it does! Women are predators who suck the living souls out of men.
