Vol. II of the Sinestro Corp. was jam packed with awesomeness and at least a dozen kick-ass moments.
At the end of vol I the Lanterns were fighting for their very survival and taking on casualties that probably went into the high hundreds. In volume II with Guardians getting snippier and changing the rule book to allow the use of deadly force (which didn't really seem like such a big deal considering they authorized its use for Superboy-P at the end of IC) the Lanterns began a killin'.
To me, something that always seemed a bit off was the idea that an intergalactic police force would not be allowed to use lethal force in times of war. I'm not saying the GL's need to use lethal force in everyday battles where non-lethal force always served well enough; but the idea of an "intergalactic police force" or "intergalactic soldiers" never using lethal force in times of war seemed ridiculous. I realize its a comic book so they had to water it down to make it palatable for kids but I'm glad the writers are taking a more intelligent approach to it.
Obviously, this will be an important theme going forward both in terms of story and ideologically: balancing the use of lethal force in times of peace.
So onto kick-ass moments:
Mogo vs. Ranx: The conclusion. Sodom Yat blowing up Ranx while be whined about how Gardner embarrassed him was great.
Sinestro Corp. invading earth. There were quite a few great splash pages that showed the Sinestro Corp. descending towards Earth and the subsequent clashes with earths heroes. Then a few pages later Hal flying straight to his brothers house tackling Parallax then pulling Kyle out of Parallax.
Guy Gardner and the GL's at Mt. Rushmore battling an invading force of the Sinestro Corp.
Ganthet and Sayd imprisoning Parallex within Hal's, John's, Guy's and Kyle's ring and Ganthet asking Kyle to forgo the power of Ion and offering Kyle the last GL ring he'll ever out as a Guardian.
I got a chuckle out of the one Lantern that Sayd was holding that had a "Michigan" sticker on it. Is that Gardner's Lantern?
Kilowog vs. Arkillo. Great battle scene ending with Kilowog dropping a navy ship on him.
Possibly the two best sequences were Sodoam Yat vs. Superboy-Prime. That was a brutal and vicious battle. To Sodom Yat's credit, he went head to head with SPB and still fell but the way Yat just kept after Prime was amazing. The battle raged across NY with Yat holding his own till he had no more.
The Guardians, as dickish as they were, finally acted. As John and Guy swung the planet at the Anti-Monitor the Guardians enclosed the Anti-Monitor within it and watched him die, but not before Superboy Prime kicked him out; which I got another laugh out of. Then it was both Corp. vs SPB. Another fine battle scene that ended with a Guardian giving his life to kill Prime.
There a few more memorable moments in vol II, but the last one I want to mention, probably the best one of all was an unpowered Hal & Kyle battling an unpowered Sinestro. Seeing them fight across roofops and throw each other through doors, walls and windows was great. There weren't any fancy ninja moves or any of the 1,000,000 fancy fighting styles Batman or Karate Kid mastered. It was three guys down in the dirt throwing punched.
