Writer Dwayne McDuffie revealed today on his message board that he’s been fired from Justice League of America, saying “it was my own doing.â€￾

His dismissal came after “Lying in the Guttersâ€￾ columnist Rich Johnston “ran a compilation of two years or so of my answers to fans’ questions on the DC Comics discussion boards,â€￾ McDuffie posted, referencing this May 4th column. “I’m told my removal had nothing to with either the quality of my work or the level of sales, rather with my revelation of behind-the-scenes creative discussions.â€￾

If you didn't really care much for his work, I highly suggest reading the article they mention where he talks about what was going on backstage so to speak. it really put his work and his stories in a whole new light, and gave him much more credit on the book.

I'm a bit up in the air as to whether or not I'm upset or happy to see him go. He wasn't my favorite, but he was struggling with a lot of Editorial, Event, and Forced stories so I gave him a lot of slack. But I definitely didn't want him to leave in that way. I'd rather he left on his own choosing.

Most times when an employee blows the whistle on the shitty practices of their company the consequences are always severe ranging from being shitcanned to possibly sued.

I was one of the people who was constantly decrying Duffie's shitty run. After I read the DCMB thread where Duffie was explaining why his run was unspectacular I shut my mouth. It would have been easy for Duffie to point fingers and cast blame and make himself look like the victim but he didn't do that.

I was further impressed at how Duff kept it classy and clearly stated his frustrations without whining finger pointing; but rather he stated the biggest obstacle were all the mega events and he was constantly having to work around them or within a limited frame because every month there was a new plot point in IC or FC or Countdown that required him to re-do his story; and pretty much all his storylines were altered as a result of it. Duffie also kept it classy by accepting the consequences of airing his boss's dirty laundry in public without complaint - in this case the internal problems at DC.

I am sad to see Duffie go without seeing what he was really capable of. I really hope he returns to JLA without any editorial restraints so we can see what he's really made of. Also, DC fucked up by demoting Duffie. I wouldn't be surprised if Duffie left for greener pastures because of this.

They are probably making way for a big name writer, Johns or Morrison, to come on the title later this year.

Duffie's run started out great but bit by bit it really started to suck. I had already dropped it when I found out it partially sucked because of editorial interference, but still his stories did get a bit bad towards the end...

Like I said, if you don't care for what he wrote, be sure to read the articles that actually got him fired in the first place so you can see WHY his writing wasn't coming out so well.


As for a big name, yea they had that in the works but I don't think it was supposed to come about nearly this soon, not just yet.

I know the editorial mandates pressed on him, I read the article when LitG first published it. Just saying, even with the mandates shit is still shit It now has a reason to be shit, but you can always make sure a flower gets grown in the shit, lol. He started out great before the mandates and started going downhill. I just didn't care for it after his 2nd arc...
