Flash: Rebirth #2

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

This issue was one part recap of Barry's life and one part explanation of whats going on now.

The first half of the issue mixed a narrative of Barry's past (becoming the Flash, first meeting with Iris) along with the present day and his reaction to being alive and still giving his friends the brush off.

The second half of the issue states that Barry is the new Black Flash. Not being up to date on my Flash history, can anyone (Tragic) tell me what exactly is the story the Black Flash?

The Black Flash is basically the being that races after each and ever Flash/Speedster who is connected to the Speed Force. Supposedly, it's who they will see catching up to them just before they die.

This is what makes it plausable that Barry was the new one in issue 1 when he killed Savatar at the end of the issue. If he's running and touches a Speedster, they'll essentially be killed, giving reason for Wally staying away from him once they realized this.

Just got upped to 6 issues, so I'm really excited to see what else they pull out of this.

Many thanks for the info Tragic. The series definitely got a bit more interesting with this new revelation. Another question for Tragic, during the issue, Barry mentioned that everyone "moved on" after he died, even Iris. Does that mean that Iris remarried? Or did she just mourn his death and try to continue living her life?

Also, Van Sciver's art is amazing. Clear, vibrant and fluid.

Also a bit of info, the Black Flash is also rumored and hinted to be the Black Racer as well, the being who chased down the New Gods before they died, which is why Wally and Barry mentioned running from him to kill Darksied.

He meant moving on in terms of getting over him and getting on with their lives. Iris isn't remarried as far as I know, I think he just meant that she was ok and settled on the fact that he had died.

And yes, Ethan's artwork is fucking fantastic. I love it when he gets enough time to really cut loose and get his work perfected.

I've heard of, and seen, the Black Racer before. He's the guy on skis right? I always thought that looked kind of awkward. I wouldn't mind it if they turned him into Black Flash. Last time, I ever heard about Black Racer was way back in Our Worlds at War; when he took John Henry Irons.

Gotcha, thanks.

So what do you make of the Blackest Night preview at the end of the 2nd issue of Rebirth? Is it just me or does that fella resemble Aquaman?

No problem!

Dude, haven't you seen the DCUBlog?

Aquaman, Earth 2 Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Ronnie Raymond Firestorm are all Black Lanterns :D

So yea, it's definitely Aquaman, and it's supposed to be the actual Aquaman from what I've read.

I haven't been keeping up with DCU Blog. I felt so burned by DC's FC that I stopped reading their blogs just so I could avoid their promos for their upcoming mega events.

So the Black Lanterns are comprised of dead heroes (MM, AM, RR, & E-2Supes).

Has there been any mention/speculation/rumors if the Black Lanterns return will be permanent, or does it look like they'll mostly just return for the mega event? It seems like the only one of the black lanterns who might return for good is Aquaman, and it seems like the original Aquaman's been gone for years hasn't he?

Whether or not they return for good is up for grabs.. I'm sure someone will stick around for awhile. In addition, we've learned tehre will be other Black Lanterns, like Terra that attacks the Titans, and apparently the Blackest Night: Batman mini involves the Black Lantern Flying Graysons, and the Superman mini has the Earth 2 Superman digging up the grave of Pa Kent.. basically anyone who's died has the potential to become a lantern.

As for the original Aquaman.. he supposedly 'died' at the end of Infinite Crisis and the One Year Later bit, but he actually became the mentor to the newest Aquaman, and had that squid like look to him and went by Orin.. but then he did die awhile after that.

And I'd put money on him being the one to return for good as well. they keep mentioning that he'll be back for good soon enough.

I can't see anyone beyond Aquaman returning for good.
