The story is adequate but I'm somewhat bothered by the art. The art is done by Howard Porter who I loved on Morisson's JLA but in Trials of Shazam his art is kind of unrecognizable. It looks painted rather than drawn straight forward and I don't like it.

That's cause he is an average artist who went on to be a terrible artist.

It is relatively true. He was a pretty good artist, and a few years ago I think he had an accident or issue with his wrist or arm. He had to almost 're-learn' in a way. He did an arc on the Judd Winick Titans series that somewhat looked like his old work but he had some issues with faces (to me at least) and his art wasn't the same.

At least I'm fairly certain it was Porter who had gone through all of that.

Yeah, he had an accident, could not draw anymore, became a school bus driver before relearning and getting back in the business.
I do sound like a prick for my previous comment now, don't I?

lol I have to agree with the Dutchman. :D

But No, I wouldn't say you're a prick for it. I just figured I'd toss in my two cents on why I thought his art had changed a bit. I don't know where Shazam falls tho in his art history, either before or after.

Trials of Shazam was done after Porter recovered from his accident. Porter's JLA work was in the mid 90s then his accident happened and he was gone for a while. I'm not sure when Porter returned by Trials of Shazam was definitely after he came back; given that it was done in 08 after IC
