Losing it's charm, but maybe that's the Fear Itself tie-in.

WOLVERINE #17
Damn. About to drop it and now Garney's back on? And Gorilla Man? Sounds like Aaron's bringing back the fun.

Yeah, I kind of feel like Herc has been losing its charm. Fear Itself probably is a factor, but I kind of feel the loss the interaction between Herc and Amodeus is a factor too.

I could be tempted to drop Aaron's Wolverine. But yeah, with Garney coming back it makes me pause on that thought.

Aaron can write a good Wolverine. He gets him and I really like the silly stuff he comes up with like Lord Deathstrike and his less than believable weaponry.
However, two blights I feel Aaron's made are, (1) making Wolverine charmed by the notion of religion. Boring! And (2) how long does this Red Right Hand story need to be?

I agree on the religion side. It's not that interesting. Hopefully Nightcrawler is coming back to life soon so that he can drop it.

Did you read Astonishing Spidey/Wolvie, though? That was one of the best books I've read in recent memory. Silly, over the top fun.

I'm thinking I may drop adjectiveless X-Men and Astonishing X-Men. After reading an interview, it sounds like both of those will continue to be just big stories with no connection to the 3 core titles. While I did enjoy the last arcs of each, I just don't want to actually pay money if it has no impact. The last arc of X-Men could have had a huge impact and blown over into other titles, but nope!

Personally, I kind of like how they have no major tie ins. I mean, we get fun X-Men stories that don't require me to read 3 or 4 other books, like you have to with things like Messiah CompleX, Necrosha, Age of X, and more. I can just read X-Men and enjoy a great story, or something in Astonishing pops up later on, like Kitty disappearing and Danger being introduced. While I think we have too many X-Books, I do like having ones where fun and somewhat big stories happen but don't have to tie into every other book.

I'm going to do my usual trick of picking up the first one or two issues of everything after the summer saga has ended and take it from there.

Astonishing X. Men has been off my list since Way took over.

I quite liked this. It was more of Aaron's carnage packed crazy Wolverine capers. It's rare a writer can get away with characters in the story asking what the point is - really dangerous ploy - but Aaron can manage it. It has a fairly moving ending for both characters despite the sillyness. Pete hearbroken again and Logan basically just happy to have had Pete's company.

It was great, but the problem with it was that it all didn't matter. Nothing worthnoty COULD happen, since it was just a 6-issue mini.

Yeah, so Final Crisis or Black Lantern or Secret Invasion mattered and they were shite. I'll take a great that didn't matter over a shitty story that has an impact.
Also. I'm getting back into buying X-Men. For the first time since, well, that was issue 18 of Astonishing.

Also, did I mention that I'm back to buying X-Men monthly for the first in years?
Yeah, I just can't say no to a Aaron/Bachalo book.

I'm getting that as well. As well as Uncanny and Legacy, for that matter.

Did I just say worthnoty up there?

Yes you did. I kept wondering what worthynoty meant. I figured it may've been some Dutch saying or something.

Yeah, I'm back on Uncanny X Men now that Gillen's writing it.

I'll stay around for Aaron too.

I'm also reading Carey's legacy and have been reading a bit of Yost's X. Men too.

I'm going to try Aaron's X-Men mostly because I've never read anything by Aaron that wasn't creator owned.
