Maybe doing their best to counter strike at DC's bid for shelves space with the Flashpoint minis.

Also you have to remember that June is a 5 week month. They used to do 5-issue weekly minis for those types of months, now they just release double of certain books...

It's the last part of the Death of Spider-Man. I'd say that's a pretty hefty reason. Note how it's polybagged ;)

They've actually been doing that THIS month. Check out 5 Ronin and the 5 week Captain America one-shot books that have interlocking copies.

FEAR ITSELF #3 (of 7)
SIGIL #4 (of 4)
RUSE #4 (of 4)
FF #5
ASTONISHING X-MEN #39
UNCANNY X-MEN #538
UNCANNY X-MEN #539
X-MEN #12
X-MEN #13
X-MEN LEGACY #250
X-MEN LEGACY #251

Maybe:
ALPHA FLIGHT #1 (of 8)

Biggest Marvel Month I've had in a long long time, mostly due to the double shipping. But adding Fear Itself, FF, Ruse and Sigil isn't too bad. I'd love to get Alpha Flight, but I don't know if I'll want to. I suppose I'll wait till 3 or 4 issues are out and then decide.

That's not a valid reason, imo. It just pissed me off, is what it does.

Marvel used the same logic when they launched X-Men back in '92 with 5 different covers calling it "a milestone issue." I don't buy it (pun inescapable). And even if it is the end of a huge event; 4 covers is still excessive. 2 covers sure I can understand (but I still dont like it) 3 is really pushing it & puts me off buying it altogether but 4 is just plain greedy.

Besides, I doubt whatever the death of Spider-Man story is, it'll have any lasting repercussions.

DC is putting out dozens of mediocre tie-ins to their latest (boring) event & marvel is countering w/ double shipping books. <eyeroll>

4 covers is not THAT bad. Hell, Marvel launched some books recently with up to 8 covers.

I could definatly understand two, regular and if they wanted to do another 1/25, 1/50 white cover variants they've been doing for the other milestone issues, but 4 is fucking ridiculous.
