Legacy is a heavy word. It suggests a prized possession handed down from an ancestor or a predecessor to maintain the good deeds of someone before you. Filling the shoes of George Lucas’ amazing imagination is a huge task – Lucas can vouch for that himself. But over the course of the past four years, the creators of Dark Horse's Star Wars: Legacy have done just that.

When the book was originally announced, writer John Ostrander described it as “rooted in Star Wars tradition... but a whole new eraâ€￾, and that’s exactly what he and principal artist Jan Duursema provided over the course of the series.

I was pretty surprised when I saw the article on newsarama. To me it seemed as if the story had, at least, another 20-30 issues (minimum) to go before it could begin to conclude its story.

Ostrander spent a lot of time adding political intrigue to SW, in addition to adding layers upon layers to the Galactic Civil War which is not something thats done often in comics or movies. Usually 90% of the story is dedicated to action on the front lines but Ostrander showed us the backdoor dealings of the Moffs, Roan Fel & Gar Stazi's uneasy relationship & strained alliance but more importantly, how the civil war was affecting beings on boths sides. The destruction of the Mon Calamari homeworld; "loyalists to the throne", "mutinous traitors", Jedi in hiding etc...

The dozen or so hanging plotlines is the primary reason I didn't expect this series to end so soon, especially since were in the early-mid 40s with the issue. I have no clue how they're going to wrap it up but I am looking forward to it.

Especially considering this is one of D.C.\s highest selling books, maybe second highest selling.

I almost wonder if something political happened to get it cancelled.

This was Dark Horse's 2nd best selling title behind Buffy.

I honestly don't see the reasoning behind this move. Ostrander has done (think) almost every issue in this series almost non-stop with artist Jan Dursuuma so I'm wondering if maybe Ostrander/Dursuuma want to finish this series on their terms. Perhaps that was in their contract.

If not, then DH should let the series continue. It's intelligently written; Ostrander seems to realize that a civil war of any magnitude has ramifications far beyond just the front lines. Loyalties are tested, broken, newly formed; casualties range from individuals to whole societies/planets and the back room politics are just as deadly as any cutthroat bounty hunter; the series discusses and analyzes the importance of propaganda and its importance in the war on both sides. And lets not even talk about reconstruction of the galaxies.

I reiterate: I don't understand why DH is ending this series, what seems like, prematurely.

No one understands, it's pretty stupid IMO (as well as everyone else's, lol). I'm waaaay too behind on reading it but I know it was a great series that opened up a whole new era for Star Wars.
