Funny? Not funny?

So, by our standards, we've pretty bold at the conventions. Now check what this guy did.
I don't where to sit on this one. I really don't think I could do something like that cause it's kinda mean.
It's seems though that this guy is now going to get a very hard time from pros at upcoming cons.

It's funny, but rude. I don't think funny excuses rude, unless you can be charmingly cheeky with your rudeness, like say Ricky Gervais. Even if you can take the piss like Gervais, your rudeness isn't excused, just fortunately over shadowed.

Obviously everyone except Liefield and people who inexplicably give him work are aware of how rubbish his art is, but if you've got a problem with it, you've just got to remember that no one forced you to buy his work. Publishers don't owe us anything. No matter how much we may cherish a creation, it's still the publisher/creator's work and by their choice theirs to destroy intentionally or not. We're just along for the ride if we choose to buy a ticket.

Does make you wonder though doesn't it. If Liefield wasn't a product of the 90s, surely he would not have gotten work? Surely!!!!

I found that on Twitter yesterday and laughed my ass off reading it! It's rude as hell but still hilarious...

Rude? Yea a little bit. Funny? Oh yell yes. I mean, he doesn't like what someone did and he told him, albeit not privately like you would expect but it's not like he'd get the chance to either. Yea he was kind of a dick about it but he was honest.

I can't say I'd have the nerve to go up to a creator I didn't like and ask for an apology on a story because I didn't like it. I'd try to find common ground on something I did like by them instead.

Either way, I did find it funny, but sure he could have gone about it some other way.

I certainly wouldn't want, if I had paid con tickts, to waste time AND money doing that. And getting what in results? Everybody in the industry hates me. If I ever set foot at a con again, all I'll get are dirty looks.

And I don't really think it's funny. Liefeld's version makes it even lame.

In a similar way, if you walked up to Joe Q and gave him an extra-large t-shirt with the Mephisto art of his face and speech bubble saying, "it's magic. I don't gotta explain shit", it would be funny. Funny, but funny doesn't excuse rude, it's just more memorable, so by and large we all tend to ignore the level of rudeness, because the funny side of what was done put a smile on our face. There are better ways of expressing criticism. but I guess stunts get a bigger, more immediate reaction than pursuing the proper, more respectful ways of voicing one's opinion. Again, just more memorable.

Liefields needs eye opening criticism, but since his poor, story destroying work isn't done out of spite to the fans - it's simply his style - he doesn't deserve to have to eat someone's shit.

Luckily for me and you Arn, we are buddies with the Vertigo crew and are hence bullet proof forever more!

And see, I agree with the idea of not wanting to waste my time and money whilee at a con doing something like that. I'm going to spend my time tracking down and talking to the creators I want to see and thank for their work, rather than those I don't care for.

I didn't see it as particularly funny; just a guy being an enormous douche. I'm far from a Liefeld fan so its not out of love that I'm defending him, I just hate to see people act so douchey towards others as if they're so superior. On the one hand here's Liefeld who, for all his horrific art, (briefly) enjoyed an enormous amount of success and has carved out a career in the industry and is making a living for himself. On the other hand, here is a fanboy being spiteful just for the sake of being mean and spiteful.

Liefeld is a shit artist, but everyone knows that. The whole 90s/Heroes Reborn thing "I think you owe me an apology" was over 10 years ago so if that guy is still bitching about that then he's in even sadder shape than Liefeld supposedly is.

And the fact that he just put the book on the table and left, with even confronting Liefeld about it makes it all useless.

I disagree, having left all of that information along with the note on the front page. He made it obvious that he was leaving that there for Liefeld. He didn't stick around, that way while what he did was still rude, at least it wasn't public and vocal at the time, and could have been kept discrete.

I don't find it funny, and if they guy was writing a column for my website, he be shit-canned, very, very fast.

That jokes crosses a line, and the guy should have probbably gotten the shit kicked out of him for it.

You don't like something, don't read it. Demanding an apology for something and reaming a guy over his chosen profession? Guy deserves what he gets.

Let alone for something that happened 10 years ago.

The guy is a tool.
