There is no doubt that Lee is a phenomenal artist and as one of the co-head honchos of DC he'd get to lead the pack but how does everyone feel about the fact that Lee seems to be the only one doing most (if not all) of the major redesigns for DC i.e. Superman, WW (kinda), E-2 Powergirl, E-2Huntress, Cyborg, Supergirl, the new JLA villain as well as others who currently elude me.

A fair amount of Lee's redeisgns seem to have more or less the same style and feel. Not saying they all look alike but you can tell they were all designed by the same guy. It's a bit dissapointing because I'm sure there are lots of great artists out there whose work we didn't get to see.

While on the subject of redesigns, the new DC website is up and it looks a lot of flashy; among its many features, what it is missing is its message board forum. DC decided to ax the MBs. I'm guessing because they were too time consuming to moderate and they got tired of the trolling. Either way, there were some real gems on that message board.

They look good, the costumes. You are right though, they all look like they were done by the same guy, which doesn't really work when you have completely seperate heroes.

With the artistic talent involved, I'm not sure why they didn't just have the artists on the books get together and do the costumes.

I could understand wanting some 'uniformity' so to speak in terms of redesigns. And while I know Lee had a hand in a majority of it, didn't they have a few other artists involved? I thought a few of the artists on respective books had a hand in redesigning their characters, like Brett Booth on Teen Titans, though I may very well be wrong. It's been awhile since it all went down and I don't remember it all.

Some of them look fine, where others I'm not too particular about. Superman doesn't look horrible, but some of it doesn't work for me. I don't like the digital lines down Flash but that's pretty minor. And I don't care for any of the Teen Titans really.

But I'm also not reading any of those books, so I can't complain too much.

I'm not a fan of the uniformity of the costumes. I would be, if they made a passing mention in story that some superhero costume designer designed all of them. This would work. After all, if you were a superhero and one of your peers had a costume made of much better and workable material, wouldn't you want to go to the same tailor?

I think Cully Hamner's takes on the costumes are much better than Lee's. With Hamner you get a much better sense for the texture. His Batman looks really good and check out this Green Lantern:

You get a much better sense of the lantern outfit having an armored look to it, whilst still being very supple.
You'll probably recgnise these from the back pages of DC books recently.
