G4 Coverage of SDCC

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

Having not gone to SDCC this year (again) I was watching coverage of it on the G4 network and it was atrocious.

On a 4 hour block they probably devoted 40-60 minutes to coverage of comics and that's being generous. Coverage of SDCC on G4 was a mix of tv, celebs, movies & games. What G4 seemed to care most about was doing interviews with as many celebs from tv shows, movies & reality tv as possible. At one point they were interviewing the guys from Mythbusters, while cool NOT COMIC RELATED. And yes, I know SDCC is more of a pop-culture gathering but goodness sake, can we pleas get some comic coverage.

Whenever the show would break for commercial or come back from commercial, they'd do a 60 second sweep of the floor and flash to come cosplayers or comic booths. I was hoping to see some in depth interviews with indie publishers like Archaia, Oni, Image, instead we got drive-by interviews so they could get back to interviewing the cast of True Blood.

G4=laaaaaaaaaame

Does anywhere cover the actual comic part of it?

I went on G4's website and they have dozens upon dozens of smaller videos from SDCC but they're all, again, a mix of comics and other pop culture interviews.

Beyond that, I can't think of anyone who covers the comic portion of the Con in depth

On TV no, I don't think anyone does. But I use CBR and Newsarama's live blogs/posts for each of the major panels during the big cons.
