They are reducing the price & story count per issue but increasing ad count. Usually 22 pages of story, now 20 pages of story with the same total page count. 2 extra ads per issue to save $1. Meh, I'd say it's worth it...

Yeah.. so far I think this will help out a bit more than anything. It'll also help writers tighten their stories on some books that need it, as well.

Though the news that this cuts co-features is a bit of a shock as well. I was ok paying the extra dollar for those books when I had them, but what will this do for the recently announced Detective Comics co-feature with Jim Gordon? Cut it to just a 2 issue co-feature? I'm really interested to see where some of those characters turn up in Jan/Feb.

Current rumor is the backup stories are going to go Digital only.

@SpeedsterSite Jeff Lemire expects his Atom backup story to continue in "some other format". Im guessing all co-features become exclusive digital content

From what I gathered out of NYCC news, they'll either be making Co-Features into One-Shots/Minis, or adding them into upcoming TPBs I think. I'm sure we'll have more news around the Jan/Feb Solicits.

Marvel is doing it a bit different. Books already at $4 will STAY at $4 come January, but all NEW series and the like that start in or after January will be $3. So Marvel's is in between, but they claim this is so they don't hurt retailers but causing them to get less in return when people buy $3 books.

I don't know the business specifics, but personally, I'm much more willing to pick up more $3 books than I am $4 books because I get more stories for the same amount of money, which will help more books out. The retailers may not lose much, if anything, but increase in books sold.

But like I said, I don't know the business specifics, but I can't really side with Marvel's argument on this. More books sold at a cheaper price seems more like a benefit to me.

Losing 2 pages per title doesn't bother me all that much if it means I save a $1 on the title and when you add those dollars up, it makes a difference.

Also, it goes to show that you can only push prices so high before people get downright angry and stop supporting your product. Both Marvel & DC learned this the hard way but it seems DC is the one that is more willing try and rectify things.
