New Con - Special Edition NYC

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

The show runners of New York Comic Con are launching a brand new comic convention this June called Special Edition NYC. Part of the description from the site is below:
At Special Edition: NYC you will have the opportunity to collect the latest comics, buy the hard to find back issues and add original art to your collection. Special Edition: NYC is a pure celebration of comic book culture created specifically for die-hard comic book fans, creators and publishers!
Special Edition: NYC is an intimate event that is focused solely on the art, creation and culture of comic books. Special Edition: NYC is located in Javits Center North and will feature comic book creators, dealers and a limited number of panel discussions.

Special Edition: NYC is an event where Fans can meet their favorite comic book creators in an intimate environment. Special Edition: NYC is organized by ReedPOP, the creators of New York Comic Con, however this is a completely unique event and not meant to be a mini New York Comic Con.
It seems there won’t be any television, movie, video games, music, cars or anything non-comic book related at this new Con. It doesn’t state whether they’ll allow any prose novels, anime or toys related booths at the Con.

The website also states that this is an entirely separate con from NYCC and not meant to be a mini comic con. Whichever way they slice it, it sounds like a great idea. NYCC has gotten horrifically bigger in such a short timespan and has become (like SDCC) more of a pop-culture con than the comics con it was originally conceived as. And at 4 whole days one can get con fatigue after even the 2nd full day.

A smallish 2 day comics-only con sounds very fun, and if NYCC is not possible for some people for whatever reason, this could be more doable.

This sounds interesting. I think they mentioned this on the latest House to Astonish.

I think it's a nice idea for the fans and creators and since they're not getting rid of one to make room for the other (why would you anyway when you can have two money makers) - it's win win.
