Great comics day

Post by XIII »

So last Monday was as far as I was concerned, a great comics day.

Started when I got home from work to find a FedEx enveloppe on my desk. As I suspected, it contained the dustjackets for the Outfit book Cameron got me at NYCC. And there was not just one but 3 of them. Big thanks to IDW for this.

Then I saw Rucka tweeting about the release of the third Q&C novel which was happening the following day. I tweeted him about his offer to send me a copy of the book. He replied "Contact me through the website". So I visited http://www.gregrucka.com, found a link to Rucka's forum, registered there and sent him a PM with my adress and telling him that if it was not possible to send me the book, it would not be a problem.
He replied almost instantly, telling me the book would ship on the very day, with the exclusive and numbered (and limited to 1000 copies) JH Williams bookplate. My bookplate would be n°2. Needless to say I was a very very happy person at the moment. Rucka is king.

And then I had one last NYCC-related thing to do. On the last day of the Con, I had bought two books from Top Shelf for $25 with my Travelex Mastercard. I realized when I was back in France that the payment would bounce since the balance on my card was $0. So I went to Top Shelf website, found the email address of various staffers and emailed them about how I was thinking the payment wouldn't go through and how I was sorry about the situation and I wanted to give another credit card info that they could charge.
I got an answer within 30 minutes. The guy was floored that I had contacted them because indeed, the payment had been refused. So I sent my regular credit card info and they were able to charge the $25 on it. They sent me a very nice about how I was a "stand up" guy and they were looking forward to meeting again on the road soon. Made me feel all special inside. :D

And the final treat was I started reading the Outfit that evening and let's just say it: it's a masterpiece.

Say the next time someone asks me DO YOU LIKE COMIC BOOKS? the answer will be YES! plain and simple. :)

That sounds like an awesome day indeed!!! Congrats on getting the 2/1000 from Rucka! That's pretty amazing!

It's days like that, for all of us I think, that remind us why we totally love this hobby and couldn't give it up that easily!

Speaking of Rucka, I have yet to crack open Queen and Country since buying the full runs. I was dissapointed to learn that Tim Sale didn't do the interior's. I like his art and I thought the B&W version would have been great.
