Better make sure you do your stretches before kicking anything!
Did you parents only tell you about the problem, when you were younger, recently? This kind of reminds me of my uni friend who started having panic attacks at uni. Turns out it's heriditary and so his folks always knew there was a chance he'd get it.

By the way, how are your high kicks?
Can you do the splits in any direction?
For grappling, I do a few stretches to help me out with some of the 'guard' work we do there.
I've never done much high kick work other than with pads. I mostly stick to hands, when I did do sparring.
Which is your favoured leg?
