Lex Luthor & Joker by Azzerallo & Bermejo

Post by Mr Wallstreet »

Sat down and read these two over the weekend and overall they were pretty good.

These two stories were pretty much pure character pieces that tried to look at the motivations for Luthor & Joker. The Luthor story was much more direct and was told in his own words via internal monologue. The Joker story was told through the eyes of one of his henchmen who wanted to use his access to the Joker to become a somebody in this town.

Both stories were very well written and illustrated & very deep but I felt like some parts of the Luthor & Joker stories went over my head; that I didn't quite get what Azzerallo was going for. Future re-readings will be necessary to gain a better understanding. My only qualm with the art was that in the Joker story, it shifted every few pages. It was was annoying because it kept taking me out of the story. All that aside, they were still great reads.

The shift in art in Joker was due to Bermejo inking some of his pages himself, while others were inked by his usual partner Mick Gray.
